Practical Aims and Objections:

  1. Organize lexical revision on the topic “My Friends” and “Appearance”
  2. Organize Reading the text and discussion.
  3. Organize Listening Comprehension and training activities; learn how to write letters.

Developing Aims:

develop memory (long and short), the ability to plan your speech act by your own;

improve pronunciation skills and abilities;

develop speech reaction;

develop imagination, the ability to express your thoughts consistently;

develop listening memory, hearing control.

Educational (Upbringing) Aims:

up – bring the sense of honour to your friends and classmates; to the children from other countries;

up – bring love, friendship, hard-working and responsible attitude to studying and learning.

Equipment:

A tape recorder, a toy cube for the game “Snowball”, cards with tasks for the game “Draw a picture”, pictures on the topic “Appearance”, envelopes with the task “Complete the letter”, a list of new words on the board, a song “Friends” on the board.

The Procedure of the Lesson:

Greeting and Aims:Good morning, dear friends! I’m glad to see you! How are you? Is anybody absent? I see everybody is well. Let’s start our work! Today we have a lot of things to do. We’ll speak about our friends, describe their appearance and characters, read the text and discuss it, then your will listen to the text about two friends and learn how to write letters.

Warning up:Conversation with class:

Have you got any friends?

Who are they?

What is your friend’s name?

Is he (she) a pupil?

Is he (she) a good or a bad pupil (child)?

Is he (she) a good or a bad friend?

Have you got pen friends?

Do they live in our country or in other countries?

Do you write letters to them or do you phone them?

Maybe you send e-mails to your friends.

Phonetic Drill (Song). And now let’s train our tongue and our pronunciation and review such sounds as [e], [ ], [ ]. As the topic of our lesson “My Friends” let’s learn and sing a song “Friends”. The words of the song you can see on the blackboard.

And now let’s make one new friend. Her name is Amelia. She wrote a letter to us. But first of all let’s learn some new and difficult words from the letter. They are on the blackboard

And now let’s read and discuss the text. While reading the text pay attention to the structure of the letter. It can be divided into three parts: introduction, the main part of the letter and the ending.

Pre-Listening Activity:

Now we are going to listen to the text. Open your books on page 34. Look at the picture and answer my questions:

T. – Whom can you see in the picture?

What are the boys doing?

P. – They are writing a letter.

T. – After listening to their letter you’ll answer to the questions. Look at the questions of exercise 1 now and prepare to listening comprehension.

While-Listening Activity: Listen to the text and be ready to answer the questions.

I’m Andrew. I’ve got a friend, his name is Pete. He’s 10 years old. We live in Lviv. It’s a city in Ukraine. We look much alike, we are tall and slim. We’ve got wavy brown hair and grey eyes. Pete is very kind and friendly. He loves animals. Pete has got a dog called Mozart. It’s fantastic, it can sing.
This year I’ve got a new computer. Pete and I would like to have e-mail friends. We are waiting for you and your e-mail letters.

Writing Letters.

T. And the last part of our lesson is writing letters. Let’s learn how to write letters. First of all you should fare in mind that the letter has a certain structure. You have already seen Amelia’s letter.

Every letter has an introduction of the beginning. Then it is the main part or the body of the letter. And the end or the conclusion.

And now let’s do the following task: make up the letter using the parts of it. They are in the envelope.

How are you? Thanks a lot for your letter.
My name is Victor. I’m from Kyiv, Ukraine.
I’ve got straight fair hair and blue eyes. I’m tall and slim. I’ve got a father, a mother and a little sister. Her name is Ann. She is 5.
I’ve got a pet. It’s a cat. Its name is Murzik. It loves milk and fish. It’s a great pet.
I’ve got a good friend. His name is Nick. He is my classmate. Have you got friends? Please write me about them.
