TOPIC: KINDNESS MATTERS

Bill Keane, cartoonist most famous for The Family Circus, said “A hug is like a boomerang – you get it back right away.”

This week’s Kindness Challenge is to give someone a hug. This is a good way to show people that you care about them and that you think they’re worth hugging!

TOPIC: SPRING PICTURES

Mark your calendar and get ready for Spring Picture Day on Thursday, Feb. 5th. Order forms were recently sent home. Pictures will be taken in the Cafeteria starting at 10:30 through all lunches. Anyone who wants to purchase a picture needs to bring a completed order form plus payment (or online payment confirmation) to the photographer.

TOPIC: PROJECT SECOND CHANCE

Are you behind on your credits? Did you fail a class last semester or last year? If you did, you have an opportunity to make up the class through Project Second Chance (this includes most core classes and several electives). Project Second Chance uses the A+computer program to assist students with credit recovery. This self-paced program will run after school on Monday through Thursday for the next six weeks. It will begin February 2 and end on March 12. The hours are 4:00-5:30 p.m., and transportation will be provided if needed. There is a $20 registration fee, but this fee could be waived if there is a financial need. All interested students should pick up an application at the diamond or the front office.

TOPIC: ACC APPLICATION PROCESS

Counselors will be available in the Library Computer Lab on Monday, February 2nd through Thursday, February 5th from 3:45 – 4:45 to assist students with the ACC Application process. Please drop by for assistance.

TOPIC: LIT MAGAZINE!

Are you interested in working for a magazine and creating a publication for the whole school to enjoy? Are you a creative, motivated student? Do you want to be a part of East View's first magazine staff? If so, sign up for lit mag today! If you have any questions about the course, please come see Ms. Gocken in room 128.

TOPIC: STUDENT COUNCIL

There is a Student Council meeting Today, Feb 2nd. All members and officers should plan to attend the all council meeting after school.

Attention Patriots - Pennies for Patients: Do you want a pasta party from Olive Garden for your second period class? Donate to the Pasta for Pennies box in your homeroom. The class with the highest amount will get the party.​ The last day of the competition is this Friday, Feb 6, so bring in your change!!

Leukemia Lymphoma Activities: How High For Whom? Next week you will have the opportunity to vote for one of East View's finest teachers to do a funny dare. The teachers and dares are:

Dr. Denny--will wear a mohawk

Mr. Garza--will wear beach attire

Mrs. Baugh--will wear a onesie

Mr. Hunt--will wear a pig suit

Mrs. Hester--will wear a Dutch girl outfit

Put your money in the jar of the teacher you want to see completetheir dare during lunches next week.

Guess the Baby - There will be 18 baby pictures. For $1 you can buy a ballot to guess which teacher is in which picture. Throughout the week, we will be giving hints (pay attention to announcements!). The person who guesses all the pictures correctly first gets all the money from this activity toward their homeroom pennies for pasta box and a better chance at getting the Olive Garden Pasta Party! Get your ballots during all lunches.

TOPIC: EVHS CHEER/MASCOT TRYOUTS

Come by the diamond and pick up an application/constitution to try out for cheerleader or mascot. If you are interested in trying out for cheerleader or mascot you and a parent/guardian must attend one of following meetings. The mandatory meetings will be held in the Lecture Hall at EVHS at 6:30pm on Monday, February 9th or Wednesday, February 12th. At that time you will need to bring completed application and your signed forms from your constitution. Tryout Clinics are in the EVHS gym March 9-12th4pm – 6pm. Tryouts will be on Friday, March 13th.

TOPIC: WRESTLING

Saturday Taylor Billingsly and Zack Wynn competed at the district wrestling meet.

Please congratulate Taylor Billingsly for 1st place in the 120lb weight class.

TOPIC: SPANISH CLUB

There will be a Spanish Club meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 3, both before school from 8:15 - 8:45 amand after school from 3:50 - 4:20 pm. Please make plans to attend one of these meetings. We have lots ofwork to doto get ready for our Pulsera Sale!

Also, Spanish Club officers: we will have a meeting on Fri., Feb. 6, right beforeschool in Miss Fishel's room #408. We need to see all of you there!

TOPIC: PATRIOT GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Lady Patriots lost to Vista Ridge,the nation's #16 rankedteam, on Friday. When the starters were pulled with 3 minutes left in the game, Vista was up by 17 and they extended that lead as the game concluded.

Abby Holland and Diamond Morrison led the scoring effort with 11 and 9 points respectively. Diamond, Emily Daniel, and Shaun Cavanaugh recorded 7 steals between them. Holland led the rebounding effort with 10.

The Lady Patriots play away atDripping Springs on Tuesday with the winner being assured at least a tie for the #4 playoff spot in District 25-5A. Please wish the girls good luck when you see them in the halls!

TOPIC: SCHOLARSHIPS/APPLICATIONS

Scholarships are rolling in daily! Be sure to turn in your Shared Scholarship applications to Mrs. Lewis ASAP! Also check the file in the Counselors College and Career Center for new scholarships.

·  Zonta Young Women in Public Affairs Scholarship

·  Carr P. Collins Scholars Program from Baylor University

·  The Discus Award.

·  PTSA SCHOLARSHIP - If you are a member of your local PTSA and a senior, you are eligible to apply for the Georgetown PTA Council Scholarship.The application form is available in the front of the school. APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY FEBRUARY 27, 2015 AND MUST BE TURNED IN TO COUNSELORS OFFICE (EVHS) BY THIS DATE.

·  Seniors, if you attended Village Elementary for at least one full year you may be eligible to apply for the Village Elementary STUCO Scholarship

·  Senior Girls: The Professional Women of Williamson County Annual Scholarship application is now available in the Counselors College and Career Center - Deadline is Tuesday March 24th, 2015.
