Top Québécois Bands Launch Francophone Stage at Kultrún World Music Festival
Top Québécois bands Le Vent du Nord and Les Tireux d’Roches will launch the Francophone stage at Neruda Arts’ 2016 Kultrún World Music Festival in Victoria Park July 9th and 10th.
“Neruda Arts was able to add a second stage and bring on board these high profile Québécois artists thanks in large part to our partnership with the Francophone Association of Kitchener-Waterloo. This will add a whole new dimension to our 2016 free festival,” says Artistic Director, Isabel Cisterna.
Members of Le Vent du Nord are Québec’s most accomplished Francophone artists winning critical acclaim and adoring audiences across Europe and North America. The quartet has performed well over 1,000 concerts, and racked up numerous prestigious awards, including two Junos, a Canadian Folk Music award, and an 'Artist of the Year' designation at the North American Folk Alliance Annual Gala. Le Vent du Nord will play Saturday July 9th at 2pm.
Les Tireux d’Roches have an uncanny ability to electrify crowds with a folk-trad style that combines traditional and unconventional instruments such as the banjo, accordion, Irish bouzouki, clarinet, sax and harmonica. For close to 20 years, the storytellers, singers and musicians of Les Tireux d’Roches (The Rock Throwers) have toured the world, won prestigious awards and delighted audiences with their high-energy renditions of traditional Québécois music. Les Tireux d’Roches will perform Sunday July 10th at 5pm.
Kultrún is a free, family-friendly celebration of diverse artistic expression featuring a fabulous lineup of local, national and international world music artists, interactive activities for kids, all-ages workshops, a food and craft market, and a beer garden cantina. This year’s free activities for children include mural painting, a Parade of the Species, theatre improv, and dance activations.
