SSOW-006B–Daily clean-down of the spraybooths

Introduction:

The Spray booths require cleaning-down by the sprayer at the end of each shift and the following procedure should be followed, should there be any reason why the procedure cannot be followed report immediately to your Supervisor/Manager. The sprayer must fill out the “Daily paint shop check list” once the clean-down is complete.

Procedure:

  • Before commencing the clean,make sure all spray guns and equipment are wiped down and safely put away, report any damage or fault to your manager/supervisor.Guns must be cleaned by trained employees who must follow the manufacturers cleaning instructions before cleaning the guns
  • Ensure spray booth is clear and in a safe condition removing trestles, earthing wire, spray equipment etc.,if unsure speak to Supervisor/Manager.
  • Make sure lids are put on all paint tins and any paint tins not required are put away in the bunded paint store safely.
  • The appropriate PPE, face masks, gloves, disposable overallsetc. must be worn.
  • When sweeping paint residue/waste/dust care must be taken so as not to create any airborne contamination/dust.
  • Using the soft brush sweep down the lights and filters, make sure all lights are working and report any faults you find.
  • Put the dry paint waste/dust into the waste bins marked “DRY PAINT WASTE ONLY” under no circumstances put anything other than dry paint waste into this bin.
  • Clean the mats using the hard brush & shovel to break up the built up paint layer, sweep upthe dry paint waste/dust and then put it into the waste bins marked “DRY PAINT WASTE ONLY”
  • Used rags must be put into the waste bin marked “USED RAGS ONLY” under no circumstances should you cross contaminate these bins!
  • Always ensure the work area is left in a clean and safe condition will all materials, tools and waste moved to the correct location. All equipment must be left in good order for next shift and any issues, breakdowns or damage must be reported immediately to your supervisor/manager.
  • Once complete remove disposable overalls and gloves and put them in the bin marked “USED RAGS ONLY”Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly.
  • Waste bins must be emptied daily into the designated skips, Dry paint waste etc is placed into the “Paint Waste” skip whereas rags etc are placed into the “General Waste” skip. Do not cross contaminate this waste - If unsure speak to your Supervisor/Manager
  • Return empty waste bins to paint shop and replace lid, lids must be kept on tins and waste bins at all times when not in use.
  • Remove all paint tins not required for next shift, re-sealed and put in the appropriate location in the Bunded stores opposite.
  • All un-used or unrequired paint tins must be returned to the bunded stores container, under no circumstances should they be left out in the Paint shed or booth
  • Identify the stillages required for the next shift which need bringing into the workshop and make sure the designated area where the stillages are intended for is safe, clear and in suitable condition to take them safely before you move them.

  • Check the route of travel to ensure the route is clear and safe prior to starting any movement of stillages. If applicable make sure the stillages fit through the workshop doors, if the stillages are too long use a Side-loader if trained or inform Supervisor/Manager who will seek assistance of a trained Side-loader operative.
  • Always ensure the work area and equipment is left in a clean and safe condition with the stillages safely stacked ready for the next shift. Refer to SSOW-006A for weekly cleaning protocol, speak to your Supervisor Manager if unsure.
  • The sprayer must fill out the “Daily paint shop check list” once the clean-down is complete.
