Tomball JH Athletics

The athletic program at Tomball Jr.High Schoolhas a proud tradition. To be an athlete in this program requires hard work, commitment, discipline, and dedication. Our student athletes represent not only their families, but also our school and community. Acting appropriately at all times is an expectation. By being a part of ourathletic program and sports teams, the important values of citizenship, leadership, and character are strengthened. All of these are important to being successful in competition and life. The athletic program offers the following competitive sports: Football, Volleyball, Cross Country, Basketball, and Track

General Rules and Expectations

  1. You must meet all University Interscholastic League (UIL) requirements for participation in athletics. These can be found on-line at
  2. Academics and conduct will be monitored closely. Inappropriate conduct will be addressed by the Administrative and Athletic staff. Consequences given from coaches may be in addition to school consequences. Excessive discipline problems can result in dismissal from athletics.
  3. All students involved in the athletic program are required to have a yearly physical by a physician.Students in the Athletic class must submit a completed physical within one week of joining the class. Failure to submit the proper physical form within the first week will result in removal from athletics to an alternate elective.
  4. Students enrolled in the Athletics class will be required to pay a yearly $15.00 fee (cash only).
  5. Any student may enroll in the athletic class as long as they participate in at least one sport. Failure to participate in a sport may be grounds for dismissal from the athletic class.
  6. The Athletic staff will make the final decision on whether an individual will become a member of an athletic team. Most sports have some type of formal skill evaluation or try-out. Grades, conduct, and a student’s ability to follow policies/expectations will also be considered. If an athlete does not make a sports team then they will be assigned to the off-season program.
  7. All athletes are responsible for the care and upkeep of the uniforms and equipment issued to them. They are expected to respect another player’s equipment and property as well. Stealing will not be tolerated! Lockers and locks are issued in order to secure personal items.
  8. A late bus will be available for studentathletes for after school sports on Tuesday and Thursday only. Studentathletes may be asked to ride the late bus home if prompt transportation becomes a problem.
  9. TISD provides transportation to and from all sports related competition. It is mandatory that all athletes ride the bus to the event and are encouraged to ride the bus back as well. If there is an extenuating circumstance, an athlete may ride home with his or her parent as long as the parent first signs them out with their coach, and has submitted the signed TISD travel form.
  10. Athletes are expected to be on time to all practices and games. Athletes who must miss practice due to an illness or an emergency must notify their coach. Excessive absences may result in dismissal from the team.
  11. A parent note is required before an athlete is exempt from participation, on a day to day basis. A doctor’s note will be required if a student is not able to participate for longer than 3 days. Each athlete will still be required to dress out and may be given an alternate assignment.
  12. Athletes assigned to Out of School (OSS) or a full day of In School Suspension (ISS), will not be allowed to participate in athleticsfor the days assigned. Partial day assignments to ISS may result in suspension from participation as well.

Grading Policy for Athletics

  • Students start with 100 points each nine weeks
  • Students may lose up to 10 points daily for not dressing out and participating.
  • 5 points for proper clothes and 5 points for participation

All studentathletes failing Athletics class will be removed from class at semester break. Coaches will contact parents prior to schedule change.

Studentathletes that quit a sport or are removed from athletics for disciplinary reasonswill not be allowed to enroll into an Athletic class until a parent conference with coaches and athlete is held to discuss expectations for the current year.
