Parents,

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year at IC Evans Elementary! Our enrollment is bigger than ever this year, so we need your help to keep the school and your children safe. It remains our highest priority to ensure that students enter and exit cars in a safe and organized way. Our parking lots are not designed to handle the number of vehicles that come to campus at the beginning and end of each school day. We ask everyone to follow our drop-off and pick-up procedures because failure to do so creates chaos, frustration, unsafe conditions, and traffic jams.

Please remember to never park along the red curb (fire lane) or in the marked bus lanes in the front and along the North side of the building.

Drop off:

  • Students (Kindergarten-5th grade) may be dropped off in the back parking lot beginning at 7:15 and enter the back cafeteria doors.
  • PreK students may be dropped off in the front of the building beginning at 7:30 when teachers are present for drop off.
  • Head Start students must be walked in through the cafeteria or front office (following sign-in procedures)beginning at 7:30. They must be signed in with the teacher in the classroom.
  • There will be staff in the front and back parking lots to assist your child out of the car. Please do not park and get out of your car unless you park in an assigned parking space.
  • Students are to exit the car, whenever possible, on the passenger side.
  • Parents, please do not get out of your car. We will open the door and help your child out.
  • Children are to walk on the sidewalk around the back parking lot. If you parked and are walking with your child, please use the sidewalk and not walk across the cafeteria parking lot.
  • The bell rings at 7:45. A student is tardy if he/she is not in the classroom by 7:50.
  • If your child is eating breakfast, he/she needs to be in the cafeteria line no later than 7:40. All students will be sent to the classroom at the first bell. (Breakfast begins at 7:15am; PreK begins eating at 7:35; Head Start eats with their class at 7:55)

Pick Up:

  • The front parking lot is for PreK, Head Start, and Mrs. Hunter/Mrs. Jones’ classes pick up only.
  • Parents are to remain in their vehicles (except Head Start) – do not leave vehicles unattended in the front drive.
  • PreK teachers will bring your child to you as you come through the circle drive.
  • Head Start parents – park in the parking spots in the front of the building and meet your child’s teacher at the portable building entrance.
  • Kindergarten students are walked to the North bus lane at 3:00. If you are picking up a kindergartener only, please pull through the bus lane between 3:00-3:10. Otherwise, please pull through the back parking lot to pick up your child at the K sign. Again, please do not get out of your car. A teacher will bring your child to you.
  • All older children with a younger sibling will go to the younger child’s location. If you have an older and younger child, please wait until after 3:15 to come through the drive. You will be asked to move your car if your child is not outside unless you are parked in a parking space.
  • First and second graders will be taken to the back parking lot for pick up at 3:15.
  • Third, fourth, and fifth graders will exit the North doors and will be picked up along Dana Street.
  • You may pick up your child across the street at the church, but please make sure your child knows of this plan! There is a staff member at the cross-walk who will get your child across the street, but there will be no supervision once there.
  • Please follow the directions of staff members on duty.

On rainy days, students will wait inside the building watching for their car. A teacher will escort the Kindergarten through 2nd graders to your car in the back parking lot.

  • Students will not be dismissed to parents from the classroom. We ask that parents wait outside the building to pick up your child.
  • If you need to enter the building, before school or during the day, you will be required to bring a driver’s license for each person entering, and will sign in through the kiosk in the office.
