Dr. Cline, Chair, called the meeting to order.
The meeting minutes for April 21, 2009 were tabled due to lack of quorum.
Steven Buck gave a presentation on the Oklahoma Synar Tobacco Sales Compliance.
Discussion was held over the new FDA requirements and that FDA is seeking public input on tobacco regulation.
The objectives of the Oklahoma State Plan for Tobacco Use Prevention and Cessation were reviewed.
The 2009 Oklahoma Health Improvement Plan was reviewed. Comments and feedback were encouraged. The final result will be model for OSDH Strategic Plan.
Connie Befort gave an update on Oklahoma Alliance on Health or Tobacco. Legislative support is being sought for various bills that failed in the previous session.
Jonas Mata gave a brief update on the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust. The first round of Communities of Excellence grantees have been granted another 5 year term. Additional grants are being discussed. Free & Clear have been awarded the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline contract. Sjonna Paulson presented on new media ads that will be running. The revised cessation material was shared. November 14-21, 2009 is being considered for Tobacco Free week. A Proclamation is being developed for signature by Governor. The TSET Annual Report 2008 is now available on line.
A science-based committee is meeting to discuss TSET funding for stem cell research.
Meeting dates for calendar year 2010 were discussed.
October 9, 2009 is the annual Turning Point Conference. Applications are available for Certified Healthy Businesses.
The Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy annual Fall Forum is scheduled October 13-14, 2009. Participation is encouraged to address tobacco influences among youth.
The Oklahoma State Department of Education Safe Schools conference is scheduled for November 6, 2009.
