Background

The National Centre of Indigenous Excellence is a state-of-the-art facility, built on the site of the former Redfern Primary School. The NCIE has been operational for 3 years, and has experienced unprecedented growth and success, working through an assets based model of excellence, resilience and self-determination.
Primary Purpose of Job
The Tobacco Community Liaison Officer is an integral member of NCIE’s Talking About Tobacco Use (TATU) Program. The position will involve working with local Aboriginal organisations to go smoke free, facilitating a High School Tobaccos Education and Awareness Program, and being an Ambassador for NCIE’s Friday Night Live Program.
The successful candidate will also work across a range of other innovative and life changing NCIE programs, as directed the General Manager, Programs and Partnerships. The Tobacco Community Liaison Officer will act as a critical link between NCIE Programs and the Community. This will involve a high degree of communication with families, local schools, local organisations and community stakeholders. This position is highly suited to individuals who are entrepreneurial and looking for a flexible role making a real difference in the community.

Selection Criteria
Knowledge and Experience
Essential / -  An ability to respond quickly and appropriately to participants needs
-  Demonstrated ability to communicate to a wide range of stakeholders
-  Excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills
-  A strong interest in the Indigenous sector
-  Experience working in a small team environment with a high degree of initiative and self-motivation
-  Experience in communicating and working constructively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
-  Experience working with Youth
-  A commitment to measuring and scaling the positive impact of Programs delivered to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
-  Experience in developing and maintaining effective networks, alliances and relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families, communities and organisations
-  A commitment to obtaining a NSW Working with Children Check prior to commencement of employment
Desirable / -  Education or related tertiary qualification (eg. Teaching, Social Work, Youth Work)
-  Behaviour management experience and expertise
-  Facilitation skills
-  First Aid Certificate
Practical Requirements
A current drivers licence and willingness to drive is essential.
Some work outside of the normal hours of duty may be required.
