Toast, Roast, Gift, and Grub Banquet

We will be celebrating the end of our novel with a banquet to rival the one Prince Humperdinck threw for Princess Noreena (although no one should be bald). This banquet is a requirement and will serve as TWO major grades.

For this banquet, each student is required to complete each of the following:

·  Toast: Choose a character from The Princess Bride that you admire. Then write a toast, which you will recite at the banquet, explaining why you admire this character.

·  Roast: Choose a character that you disagreed with, were annoyed by, or were glad to see reach their demise. Then write a roast, letting that character know why you found him/her so despicable, which you will recite at the banquet.

·  Gift: Choose a character to whom you want to give a gift. Perhaps it’s something they could have used during their journey or something they could have earned (good or bad).

·  Grub: Choose a food that has some connection to the text and bring in a bit of that food, enough to feed 3-5 people only. You may make the food yourself, or buy it already prepared.

Each of you must complete all four parts to this project, all of which will be presented to the class during our banquet for two major grades.

Example Toast 1: About Time

Later on I may tell you about Tim's many failings as a man and as a table tennis player. But, important first to say the one big thing - I've only loved three men in my life. My dad was a frosty bugger so that only leaves dear Uncle Desmond, B.B. King, obviously, and this young man here. I'd only give one piece of advice to anyone marrying. We're all quite similar in the end. We all get old and tell the same tales too many times. But try and marry someone kind. And this is a kind man with a good heart. I'm not particularly proud of many things in my life, but I am very proud to be the father of my son.

Example Toast 2: Hitch

Never lie, steal, cheat, or drink. But if you must lie, lie in the arms of the one you love. If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away.
