LRC Workshop 12/06

Uploading Scola files and making Media Workbooks

Keep in mind that your video files to upload must be named scola1.mov, scola2.mov, or scola3.mov.

1.  In the carrel you are sitting in, there is a paper with a number. Type the following address replacing the word “account” (highlighted in grey in the address) for your carrel’s number:
http://stream.lrc.cornell.edu/medialib/faculty/teacheraccount/update
So in a carrel with the number 05, the address would be:
http://stream.lrc.cornell.edu/medialib/faculty/teacher05/update
The user name and password are both “lrc”
2. Under the section "Add Media File" at the bottom half of the screen, click on Choose File.
3. Select scola1.mov, scola2.mov or scola3.mov from your hard drive. You can leave the rest of the settings as they are for SCOLA files.
4. Enter a descriptive Media Title (anything you want).
5. Click on the “Add Media File button”. Once the file is uploaded you will see it in the File List section in the upper area of the screen. You can click on the title to see the file in a media page.
6. Select and then copy the text from URL in the File List and you are ready for the workbook.

Accessing and putting media into a workbook:

Now that you have the Url copied, you can paste it into a workbook:
1.  Go to http://lrc.cornell.edu/students/workbooks/workshop/teacheraccount-01/update
If you want to work on a second and third workbook, substitute 2 and 3 at the end of the address.
2. Your name and password are both lrc (lower case)
3. Click on “Workbook setup” on the left hand menu
4. Paste the video URL into the box after “Media File.”
5. Make any other changes you want on the setup page. You should enter the number of sections if you have more than 1. This will allow your results to be sorted by section for different teachers to check if necessary.
6. Click on “Save changes” at the bottom of the page.

Writing a Media Workbook

1. Go to http://lrc.cornell.edu/students/workbooks/workshop/teacheraccount-01/update
(you may already be there)
2. Click on “Add New Question.”
3. Choose the type of question you want from the menu on the left. Directions for each question type appear on the top of the page. We designed this to make it very easy to enter questions, either by writing directly on this page or by pasting in from a word processor.
4. Enter your question in the box, following the directions above.
5. Enter the answer in “Answer Key” if you want. In workbook setup you can specify whether these answers can be viewed by the students after submitting or not. You can also specify whether you see them yourself when you look at student answers.
5. Click on “Add Question” at the bottom of the page. If you want, you may click on “Add new Question” again to add as many questions as you like.
6. On the main update page, you can click on “View Media File.” This allows you to look at the media while you prepare the questions.
7. From the update page, you can also click on “View Workbook.” This shows what the workbook will look like to a student.
To see student answers: add /view to the end of the address instead of /update , or click on
“Student Results” on the main update page.
