Porter (Visitor Operations)
Purpose:To undertake light, day-to-day porterage and cleaning duties in support of the Museum’sVisitor Operations.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Responsibilities
  • To undertake porterage tasks as required, including in support of the Museum’s public events programme.
  • To operate to an agreed programme of work, allowing for flexibility to respond to reactive work, as required.
  • Set up furniture and other equipment as required in meeting rooms / event spaces for Museum and private hire events.
  • Assist with event delivery for daytime and evening corporate events including movement of stock, cleaning down spaces and some light kitchen porter work
  • Maintain cleanliness of visitor areas used for events including toilets and welcome areas
  • To undertake training where necessary.
  • Any other duties deemed commensurate with the role.
Accountabilities
  • To adhere to Health and Safety procedures, including the use of PPE and manual handling in accordance with the Museum’s policies.
  • That high standards of cleanliness and routine maintenance are undertaken.
  • To ensure that exhibition halls and toilets across the site are cleaned prior to events.
Dimensions
  • The Museum welcomes c300, 000 visitors each year to its 26-acre open-air site.
  • To work within Museums stated procedures and practices.
  • To undertake any other duties appropriate to the post.
Working Relationships
  • Interacting with, and taking instructions from the Maintenance Foreman(Operations).
  • Working as part of the Visitor Operations Maintenance Team.
  • Liaising with the Museum’s Duty Manager, Hire & Hospitality Sales Manager, Events Co-ordinator and other Museum staff as appropriate.

Essential
  • Experience in a similar porterage role.
  • High standards of work.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including the need for regular weekend and occasional unsociable working patterns.
  • Appreciation for the historical authenticity of the Museum, including collections care issues
  • Full, clean driving licence.
Desirable:
  • Understanding of and appreciation for, the Museum’s purpose and aims of the Museum.
  • First Aid qualification.

Hours: 20 hours per week (to be worked 5 days out of 7)
