To the tune of ”Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”

Orange, yellow, red and brown

Red and brown.

Orange, yellow, red and brown

Red and brown.

In the fall,

The leaves come tumbling down.

Orange, yellow, red and brown,

Red and brown.

The Leaves on the Tree

Tune: The Wheels on the Bus)

You might want to provide each child with an orange and a red leaf to act out this song. Or, just act it out using hands for leaves.

The leaves on the trees turn orange and red

Orange and red, orange and red,

The leaves on the trees turn orange and red

All around the town.

The leaves of the tree come tumbling down,

Tumbling down, tumbling down,

The leaves of the tree come tumbling down,

All around the town.
The leaves of the trees go “swish, swish, swish,”

“Swish, swish, swish, swish, swish, swish,”

The leaves of the trees go “swish, swish, swish”

All around the town.

We’ll rake them in a pile and jump right in!

Jump right in, Jump right in!

We’ll rake them in a pile and jump right in!

All around the town.

Sing the Sounds the Batman Way!

Posted by Wendy on Oct 11, 2011 in Kindergarten Reading and Writing, Teaching Tips | 0 comments

Remember the old Batman cartoon? The one with the theme song, “B-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-Batman!” Well, it can easily be adapted into a super fun way to practice the letter sounds.

First, cut 26 bats out of black construction paper. (You could use the outline of the bat below, make your own, or make it even easier on yourself and use blank calendar cut outs or die cuts). Write the letters of the alphabet on them (a silver Sharpie works well, so does chalk). Glue them on a rectangular piece of construction paper. Laminate for durability.

Now, you’re ready to sing! C-c-c-c-c-c-c-c-catman! F-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-fatman! W-w-w-w-w-w-w-w-watman! For vowels, just replace the /a/ with the vowel sound. I-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-itman!

Fall Leaves

by Terryl Haubert TK Teacher Elk Grove Unified School District

(Sung to the tune of “One Little Two Little Three Little Pumpkins”)

1 little, 2 little, 3 little fall leaves

4 little, 5 little, 6 little fall leaves

7 little, 8 little, 9 little fall leaves

10 little fall leaves falling down (kids flutter hands downward)

We rake and we rake and we rake them in a pile, (pretend to rake)

Repeat

Repeat

A great big pile of fall leaves.

We run and we run and we jump in the pile. (Run in place and jump!) They love this part! If time permits we might sing this verse a couple of time.

Repeat

Repeat

Repeat

A great big pile of fall leaves.

Scoop them up and put them in the green can

Repeat

Repeat

A great big pile of fall leaves.

When I introduce it I teach the first verse and then ask them what we should do next. I repeat the question between each verse to get them sharing personal experiences and to also encourage them to think about the sequence. We also pretend to get out the rake and put it away, as well as opening the can and closing it. I want to make sure they do a complete job!

It’s fun getting their input. You get some really interesting responses. “Throw them in dad’s car.” “Put them in mommy’s shirt.”…
