To the Rockbridge July Work Crew,May 2010

Congratulations on being a part of one of the greatest missions in the world: Work Crew! We are absolutely convinced that there is no better way to spend a month of your summer than serving Jesus Christ with brothers and sisters at Young Life camp. We want to tell you how thankful we are for you and your willingness to serve at Rockbridge. We are really looking forward to meeting you and working together this summer and we are confident that God has great things in store for our Work Crew team.

In preparation for the month, the main verse we want to commit to as a Work Crew team is what Jesus called the greatest commandment: Mark 12:30-31 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” If we love God and love others well, we will have a great month together!

Here are some other great passages that will help you prepare for our month together: John 13:34-35; Romans 12:1-2; and Philippians 2:1-18.

This July, you will be embarking on Missions Trip. Although you won’t be flying to a foreign country, Work Crew is an experience that will take a great deal of preparation, training and certain considerations that will be different than when you were a camper at a Young Life camp. If you were going on an international Missions trip, you would be asked to live at a higher standard and make certain sacrifices. During the month of July we are asking you to live at a higher standard and so we need you to pack certain things, wear certain clothes, and sacrifice your time, energy and certain possessions.

What to bring:

  • Bible, notebook, & pens.
  • Spending money for the store & snack bar.
  • $20 in cash for our night-off activities (We will collect this when you arrive.)
  • Stamps, envelopes, & addresses to write family & friends.
  • Alarm clock (other you’re your cell phone).
  • A watch.
  • A month’s supply of all toiletries.
  • An extra towel or two.
  • Laundry bag with your name on it. Please label all of your clothes with your name!!
  • Rain gear, sweatshirts for cooler nights.
  • Closed-toed shoes.
  • Calling card to call home.
  • A one piece bathing suit.

What NOT to bring:

  • Tank tops (all shirts should have sleeves)
  • T-shirts with Christian logos, beer logos, or questionable messages (YL T-shirts are ok)
  • Laptop, DVD players, iPods, etc.

Program Outfits to Bring:

  • A nice dress up outfit. (Guys: nice pants, collared shirt, tie; Girls: dresses, skirts, nice pants- no spaghetti strap tops- bring a cardigan if you are bringing a dress),
  • A 1950’s outfit. (Guys: Jeans and a white T-shirt, nerd outfit, varsity jacket. Girls: Poodle skirt or jeans, ribbons for hair, etc.)

Cell Phone Policy:

One of the greatest gifts of serving at a Young Life camp is being able to get away for a month and disconnect from the busyness of life. Since we value our time with each other and the community of Work Crew, we will collect all cell phones and iPods once we arrive at Rockbridge. Please plan accordingly: write down all important telephone numbers and bring a calling card to call home. Your parents or friends can contact you by calling the Rockbridge office at 540-997-9276 at any time and the message will be passed on to you. In the event of an emergency, we will make your cell phone available to you.

Visitor policy:

Rockbridge simply cannot accommodate our family and friends to just stop by and visit. If your parents need to stay, they can contact the office at Rockbridge and they will help them make arrangements in the area. But please, do not invite friends or family to visit you throughout the month. We do not have the room to house them and you will be too busy working to visit with them much anyway.

IMPORTANT Arrival and Departure Information:

Please plan to arrive at Rockbridge between 10 AM and Noon on Thursday, July 8 and depart no earlier than 9 AM on Monday, August 9. It is important for the unity of the Work Crew that we get the whole team together as soon as possible. For those who absolutely have to come late, please email Ben Allen at ASAP with your name and the date you can arrive.

We realize this letter includes a lot of details and “guidelines”, but we promise you – we are going to have a blast together! Please come rested, prepared, and ready to jump in with everything you’ve got! Feel free to contact us with questions or concerns before we arrive in July. You can also join the facebook group “Rockbridge Work Crew Session 2 ...2010” to get to know some of the others before you get to camp. We are looking forward to meeting you and serving along side of you!

In Christ and on behalf of the WC Bosses,
