To ensure that such students make a preliminary study of the writers who have decisively influenced the tradition of English literature, and that the students begin to have some coherent view of the tradition.
To develop more intensively the student's skill in reading, writing, and criticism. To offer some preparation, by way of an elementary introduction to scholarly procedures, for advanced work in literary study.
To ensure that all Honours students have made some systematic study of the English language.
PREREQUISITES: An overall high second-class standing in the 2nd year and a first or a high second class standing in English.
