The Ohio Society of Pathologists is pleased to announce The Donald Senhauser Resident Competition to be held Saturday, May 7, 2011at the DublinEmbassy Suites Hotel, 5100 Upper Metro Place, Dublin, Ohio43017.
Five residents will each present a 25-minute platform presentation. The subject may be any topic in anatomic or clinical pathology. Using a case report to introduce the topic, the resident will discuss current concepts of a particular disease, diagnostic test, or pathologic process.
The five finalists will be chosen based upon the quality of a submitted handout (not to exceed eight pages, double-spaced, including references). Factors to be considered in the judging of the handout will include timeliness, thoroughness, clarity and professional appearance. The handout should not include the case report and must be written in the style of a review paper, including figures and tables if appropriate.
Criteria for the finalists presentations include: organization, delivery, the question period, relevance to practice, and completeness.
Each finalist and her/his companion, will be the guests of the Ohio Society of Pathologists for dinner Friday evening, May 6, 2011. The finalists may stay overnight at the Embassy Suites, Columbus, Ohio as guests of the Society.
Prizes will be awarded and presentations will be judged on clarity, pace, thoroughness, and slide quality. The first place winner will receive $300, the second $200, and third place winner will receive $100.
Judges will be chosen from the Ohio Society of Pathologists’ Board of Governors and various regions and residency programs within the state. The handouts will be judged by reviewers blinded to the applicant’s name, residency program, address and residency year. Finalists will be selected for the platform presentations on the merits of the submitted handouts.
Residents interested in competing in the Donald Senhauser Resident Competition, please complete the
enclosed application. All applications, handouts, curriculum vitae and oneobjective must be received by
Monday, March 7, 2011. Finalists will be notified by April 11, 2011.
