JOB TITLE: Fundraiser
SALARY: £12.50 per hour
HOURS: 21per week
REPORTS TO: Chief Executive
LOCATION: Based At Headway House, Newick with travel around the
county as required

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
  • To develop and implement a 3-year fundraising strategy for Headway Hurstwood Park (HHP) which contributes to the ongoing financial sustainability of the organisation
  • To take responsibility for maximising income generation from corporate fundraising and major donors and run annual fundraising events to raise the profile of the organisation and generate income in line with agreed targets
  • To research appropriate grant opportunities and makefundingapplications
  • To provide regular fundraising reports and updates to the Trustee Board
  • To lead and coordinate all fundraising activities involving other staff, volunteers, clients and families as appropriate
  • To set up and maintain a fundraising database

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To develop a 3-year fundraising strategy for HHP and ensure its implementation which includes operational plans to achieve the annual fundraising and donations target
  • To establish effective recording systems for monitoring and evaluating fundraising and donations
  • To set up and maintain a database of contributors and fundraising contacts
  • To provide monthly reports on the income and expenditure related to all fundraising activities and donations, reporting to the Trustee Board as required
  • To lead, organise and implement major fundraising events to include management and coordination of others (staff, volunteers, clients and families) to ensure the smooth running of each event
  • To coordinate and oversee other fundraising events and activities
  • To ensure that any fundraising is carried out in accordance with current legislation and ethical practice and keep up-to-date with any changes which may affect fundraising activities
  • To be responsible for the development of promotional literature to support fundraising ensuring that it is in line with HHP branding and professional standards
  • To work with the management team to gain maximum media coverage and advertising for fundraising activities
  • To contribute to the quarterly HHP Newsletter
  • To ensure all fundraising information available in electronic format (website, Facebook) is regularly updated
  • To attend and contribute to HHP staff meetings as required
  • To give talks and presentations to promote the work of HHP with the aim of encouraging fundraising
  • To be responsible for managing own administration and creating own working processes and procedures required to undertake to role. Support is available from the team administrator

OTHER DIMENSIONS
  • Budgetary & Purchasing Responsibilities: Responsible for the purchase of promotional material as required in liaison with the deputy CEO
  • Information Systems: Will be required to input activity data and use all aspects of Windows 8, Office 2013 and office 365
  • Support Groups: The post holder will be required to participate in the rota for the evening support groups (approx. one per year)

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The post holder is required to communicate verbally via the telephone or face-to-face with clients, internal and external colleagues and visitors to the service and to prepare information and reports in written, electronic and verbal formats.
The post holder will have key relationships with the following: -
  • HHP staff, external providers and volunteers
  • The Board of Trustees
  • Other Voluntary and Independent sector organisations
  • Local business and potential major donors
  • General public

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
  • To undertake any other duties at the request of the CEO, which are commensurate with the role
  • To be fully conversant with and adhere to the policies and procedures of HHP (see below)
  • To undertake mandatory training as necessary for the role
  • To participate fully in the Support & Supervision process and annual Appraisal, reflecting on own performance and identifying training and development needs as required
  • To demonstrate high standards of personal and professional behaviour at all times
  • To participate in audits as necessary to support the development of the charity
  • To attend appropriate courses to maintain and increase professional competence and knowledge, improve skills and contribute to a high standard of service delivery
  • To take responsibility for developing and maintaining an effective, well-organised, work environment that represents a professional business
  • To positively promote the organisation to all stakeholders and the wider public as appropriate

  • Confidentiality:
As an employee of HHP you may gain knowledge of a highly confidential nature relating to clients or staff. Under no circumstances should such information be divulged or passed to any unauthorised person or person(s). This includes holding discussions with colleagues concerning clients in situations where the conversation may be overheard. Breaches of confidence will result in disciplinary action
  • Induction & Probation:
All new staff must complete a 3-month probation period during which time they will receive an induction programme which will include gaining an understanding of all HHP services and attending an evening support group. Permanent contract will be drawn up on successful completion of the induction
  • Leave:
The annual leave entitlement is 20 days per annum (pro rata); sickness absence is not payable for the first year of employment; a total of 10 day sickness per annum can be taken in subsequent years after which time the staff member is only entitled to Statutory Sick Pay
  • Pension Scheme:
HHP operates a pension scheme which staff can join following successful completion of their probation period

This job description will be reviewed as necessary and may be amended to meet the changing needs of the charity. It will also be used as the basis for determination of objectives and the contents will be used as part of annual appraisals. This job description has been agreed between the post holder and Headway Hurstwood Park

ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
QUALIFICATIONS/
EDUCATION
REGISTRATION /
  • Good general education to NVQ level
  • Membership of Institute of Fundraising or Institute of Marketing or Institute of Public Relations

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent

EXPERIENCE /
  • Significant proven experience in corporate, major donor, trust and grant fundraising
  • Experience of working as part of a senior team
  • Experience of writing effective news articles and dealing with all aspects of the media
  • Experience of online fundraising techniques and using social media for fundraising

KNOWLEDGE /
  • Strong financial awareness to analyse income against budget and forecast income trends

  • Good knowledge of HHP and the services it provides
  • Knowledge of tax-effective giving
  • Understanding of the problems that face people with ABI and their carers

KEY SKILLS/ABILITIES /
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to liaise and negotiate tactfully with people at all levels

  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to develop effective presentations
  • Proven event management skills
