Details, Requirements, and Restrictions

Membership Only

  • Membership includes annual dues, voting privileges (except student members), SMA Newsletters, and Call for Papers.
  • Regular Membership is available to SMA Fellows, faculty, administrative, and business members.
  • Student Membership is available to active graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Membership runs from November 1st through October 31st. Membership dues are not refundable or pro-rated.

Conference Registration

  • Conference registration includes all benefits of membership as stated above PLUS access to all conference sessions, conference materials, conferences receptions, and Awards Luncheon. Visit the SMA website ( for details.
  • Registration may be cancelled with full refund up to October 1st. After October 1st, registration may be transferred to another person from the same institution. Adjustments (partial refunds) are not available for transfers from regular/SMA Fellow registration to a student. If cancellation is made without transfer, refund is subject to a $150 penalty.
  • At least one author of a conference paper or presentation and all participants of a panel session must attend the conference and present the work for inclusion in the SMA Conference Proceedings and Conference Program. Submission details are available on the SMA website (
  • Registration types:
  • RegularRegistration is available to SMA Fellows, faculty, administrative, and business members.
  • StudentRegistration is available to active graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Complimentary Registration is available to winners and finalists of the Dissertation Proposal Competition. Visit the SMA website for details and submission deadlines (
  • Doctoral Consortium registration is available to PhD students and requires nomination by faculty member and acceptance to the program; doctoral consortium participants receive all benefits of student conference attendees (no additional cost) and the three-day doctoral consortium experience (Tuesday - Thursday).   • Guest Attendee is intended for individuals such as a spouse/partner who attends the conference with a registered attendee. This registration is not available to conference attendees, authors, or presenters.

Pre-Conference Workshops

SEM Workshop

  • Pre-conference workshops are available to registered conference attendees and subject to additional fee of $200.
  • Registration is required and space in limited to 30 – acceptance on first-come-first-serve basis.
  • The Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) workshop is a one-day interactive session facilitated by Dr. Joe Hair, Kennesaw State University, and Dr. Barry Babin, Louisiana Tech University.
  • Participation requires a personal computer with AMOS software installed.
  • The workshop will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, 8:30 am – 5:30 pm.
  • Breakfast and lunch included.

Effective Use of Simulation

  • Pre-conference workshops are available to registered conference attendees and subject to additional fee of $75.
  • Registration is required and space in limited to 30 – acceptance on first-come-first-serve basis.
  • Facilitator Catharine Curran, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, presents an overview of different simulations and examines how simulations may be integrated in courses.
  • For most benefit, bring your laptop.
  • The workshop will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM.
  • Breakfast included.

Online Teaching

  • Pre-conference workshops are available to registered conference attendees and subject to additional fee of $75.
  • Registration is required and space in limited to 30– acceptance on first-come-first-serve basis.
  • Facilitator Catharine Curran, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, presents the "how to" of digitizing your courses, with tips and tricks of Blackboard. Best practices for both undergraduate and MBA classes are discussed.
  • The workshop will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, 2:00 PM - 5:30 PM.
  • Afternoon break with snacks and beverages included.
