BTT1O1 – Final Summative

Overview:

·  This is your final summative project that will contain parts from a number of the software packages we have used to date.

·  This project represents 30% towards your final mark, so ensure that you work efficiently and effectively. All of your work will be done in class within a 8 period block.

·  To put this course into a business context, you will assume the position of a new business owner just starting off. The business operation is of your choice.

·  This summative project consists of six tasks. Please find the checklist below:

Task 1 – File Management

Create a folder named “Final Exam”. All files for this summative assignment are to be saved to this folder.

Task 2 – Electronic Communication

Keep in mind that you are the President of your business.For task two, you are to send your teacher an email. To prepare for the email, the following steps must be done.

1.  Set up a new email account at www.yahoo.ca under your business name. See Free Sign Up.

2.  Create an email signature. Your signature must be in TEXT format and it should consist of: your name in full, your position and the company name.

3.  Create a logo of your store at Ms Publisher or MS Word or Photoshop, and save it as “2Logo_BusinessName”.

4.  Write a message. In your email tell the teacher the following:

a)  Introduction (paragraph 1)

Introduce yourself and your business name.

b)  Description (paragraph 2)

Describe what your business does. State the location of your business. Etc…

Explain that you are looking for investors to expand finance your new business (paragraph 3)

c)  Attach the logo file at the email.

d)  Make sure that your signature is inserted. Be sure to use proper English. No slang and no abbreviations are allowed. Try to write it in a conversational, friendly style. Don’t simply answer the questions

5. Send your prospective new investor an email at with

a.  a proper subject title for this email (that starts with BTT YourLastName YourFirstName).

b.  the logo that best describes your business attached at the email.

c.  your signature

d.  proper email etiquette

e.  a copy of the email cc to yourself

f.  Include a paragraph at the end that explains what BCC is for.

6.  Copy and Paste your email into MS Word. Save your email to the “Final Exam” folder and name it as “2email”.

Task 3: Communicating with Spreadsheets

You will be creating a spreadsheet that analyzes sales for your business. Follow the example below but you will have a total of four products. Two bar charts with the same titles have also to be created. You will design your business product offering and come up with 8 original products and prices.

Put your name and the store name on the first row. Save your work as “3spreadsheet” in your final exam folder. Print your work in ONE SIGNLE page.

Formula Hints

·  Cost Price = 50% of Sales Price

·  Gross Margin = Sales Price -Cost Price

·  Projected Sales by item- that is a number you are forecasting. Remember you want to make a decent income!

·  Projected Sales 2006 by item = Gross Margin * Projected Sales by item

·  Projected Sales in 2007 and 2008, increased from the previous years value by 5%

·  Absolute & Relative copying, formulas and functions are clearly and effectively implemented and demonstrated.

Task 4 – Creating a Brochure at Microsoft Publisher or Microsoft Word or PhotoShop

Create and save the following to your summative folder.

You want to educate your employees on the issue of security and privacy. Using one of the wizards at Microsoft Publisher or using MS Word, create a brochure that informs employees of any ONE each of the following topics (or choose another that must be approved by the teacher):

·  How to protect against spyware
·  How to protect your privacy online
·  How to protect against viruses
·  How to avoid copyright infringement /

Your one-page brochure must:

·  Be a single-side three panel brochure

·  Have a title and your name on the first page

·  Be written in your own words

Task 5 – Selling it using PowerPoint

Your business had a former employee create a presentation file promoting the business. These slides are not proving to be very effective in selling the product. Your task is to create a new slide show using PowerPoint Presentation advertise your business.

The presentation must be 6 slides long. It should:

§  have your name and the store name and logo on the first slide

§  have text information on each slide

§  have object animations and transitions

§  use images and/or clip art

§  use a consistent slide background

Task 6: Communicating with Database

You will create a database management system to keep track of your employees and their pay. Save it as “6Employees”. The database file must consist of the following fields and meet the requirement specified:

Relate the file above to the file “6Payroll”.

Create a layout named Check that represents a printout of a payroll check with the print date, employees, full name, full address, and amount of the both in numeric and in long form (word written).
