GENERAL INFORMATION
2012
1- CSM what is it ?
CSM, Chantiers Sociaux Marocains, is a non profit NGO, founded in 1963. CSM is a national association, with several sections all around Morocco and a large international relation of cooperation. CSM is the Moroccan national committee of ICYE International Cultural Youth Exchange; it’s a member of several national, regional and international plat forms.
CSM aims to:
-To promote volunteer activities for young people in their spare time and holidays;
-To promote community development and encourage participation of community members in activities for their own benefit;
-To create opportunities to exchange experiences between youth from different parts of the country and the rest of the world;
-To promote international understanding through voluntary services;
-To enable young people to encounter and understand different cultures;
-To encourage the concept of voluntary services as a force in search for peace equality, democracy and international understanding;

2- What is CSM workcamp conception?
A workcamp is a sort of voluntary service. The participants in this activity try to work together for a common aim. This means that all the participants must be actively involved in this service and be well motivated to do it.
A workcamp is also an opportunity for young people to exchange experiences and to achieve an intercultural learning process so as to build a word of peace and mutual understanding.
The work greatly varies from one project to the other. It normally involves Construction work in remote educative, social and cultural establishments, nature conservation work, and restoration of historical monuments, bricks molding, health and Aids awareness campaigns, sanitation projects such as digging water wells and erecting Blair toilets. The communities may ask us to perform other specific tasks outside the scope of our agreement. This is seen as a way of promoting intercultural understanding.
CSM organize sometime some special projects such:
-Arabic Language learning , CSM01 CSM 13.
-Teaching French or English , CSM 14 CSM 19.
-Easter Camp in the Desert CSM 20.
-Music of the World in Rabat CSM 21 .
-Trekking / intercultural CSM 22 CSM 26.
-Environment camps CSM 27 to CSM 55.
-Festival local of CSM in Rabat CSM 56.
-New year Camp in the Desert CSM 57.
CSM’s camps don’t require manual skills, but they need strong motivation and well understanding of the local culture and difficulties.
The people you are going to meet are open-minded and tolerant; they are ready to achieve with you a constructive dialogue about all the subjects you want to discuss with them.
The camps that are between the period of 20th of July to the 20th of August will be during Ramadan time, volunteers are requested to respect the life style during this period
3- Who can participate?
All the people between 18 and 40 years old can participate; some exception could be done for older motivated people.
4- Insurance
CSM provides all the participants with an insurance which covers only the work accidents. For other illness, the participants should have their own insurance.
5- The Lodging and Board
The participants in a workcamp live mostly in simple accommodation, school residences, youth or children centres, sometime in tents and also host families in cultural projects. Those places have in general basic equipments. In the beginning and in the end of the workcamps the participants are invited to clean the accommodation place and make some arrangements to make it more comfortable.We recommend to all the volunteers to take their sleeping bag.
6- Leisure time
Every locality has its characteristics, in the beginning of the workcamp the animator introduce the region to the volunteers and try to make a programme together. The participants are invited to contribute actively to elaborate and achieve this programme; they are also invited to bring with them musical materials, games and some information material about your home country.
In free time, the participants are free to organize their own activities, but they should inform the animators before.

Work : An Arabic language session is a special activity that CSM organize every year. Some 80 people coming from different countries participate in them. The objectives of this activity are:
- Giving to people the opportunity to get basic knowledge about Arabic language. That knowledge could be useful for the participants in their studies or in their daily life or in their travels in countries speaking this language.
- Giving the opportunity to people to get in touch with the Moroccan culture and its way of life, and in consequences achieve a fruitful cultural exchange.
- Giving the opportunity to people has some basic knowledge about this language to brush up it and be adapted to different ways to use it.
Food and Accommodation: The participants lodge and eat in hosts families, Staying with a family is a tool for CSM to give the occasion to the participants to use the Arabic language and also to discover the Moroccan way of life. All the participants are asked to respect the families’ environment and don’t behave against the local tradition; they are also asked to be sociable and are open mind so as to built good and fruitful communication with their members.
Location: Rabat is the capital of Morocco it's situated on the Atlantic Ocean. The climate is normally hot in summer; however warm clothes are advised to be used in some fresh nights.

Work : After the successful of CSM experience in this field, and according topeople’s requirements , our association will go on organizing English and French courses to young people aged from 10 to 18 years old with less education sustain opportunities .Those courses aim to:
- Giving the opportunity to young people who have never been in touch or who are in their first or second year, to discover it or/and to overcome the difficulties they have in this language
- Trying to connect those children with friends from abroad so as to correspond between them in English as a tool to promote their English knowledge and level and establish new friendship
Food and Accommodation: The participant will be accommodating together in the same school or in different host families (informations will be given at the beginning of june).,

CSM20: Easter Camp in Sahara ( Desert) / 22/04 – 29/04/2012 / Fees : 200 EurosType: Cult / Lodging : In a center / Participants: 20
Work : The participants will learn and work deeply the Moroccan artisan techniques to work pottery and Get Arabic Language... Theses activities don’t require individual skills but it demands a high motivation from the participants to overcome all difficulties. CSM will provide you all the materials needed in theses activities. One of the aims of those camps is to discover the Moroccan culture and history and compare this to yours. The training course will be in the morning, another’s cultural activities will be organised in the evening . Some others cultural visits will be organised during this period, and an Excursion to the desert to celebrate the Easter in the Desert .
Indeed , This program is an opportunity for participants to explore the Moroccan culture it’s a program that mixes between pottery workshops cooking and Arab courses also visit and excursion in South Morocco(oasis –desert- mountain- kasbah – river…) without forgetting the cultural debate between participants and the local association members.(countries presentation)
Food and Accommodation: The full accommodation will be in a center. The food will be prepared by the volunteers’ themselves (2v or 3v per day).
Location: Zagora is a beautiful town in the south of Morocco, near the Algerian borders . It is well known by its large desert. Zagora is about 750 km from Rabat and about 250 Km in the south of Ouarzazate.
Terminal: Marrakech, Ouarzazate or Casablanca airport and after tack a bus.

Work :The project will be organized in collaboration with the local group of CSM in Rabat.CSM is going to run this project for giving the opportunity for international participants to know about the Moroccan culture, through sharing the live with the host family, learning some Arabic classes, and also participating in 2 cooking sessions, and also visiting cultural aspects of Rabat.
The project is a cultural project, which include a lot of cultural aspects, and also the participants will have the chance to assist to Mawazine, the international world music festival in Rabat.This festival is a very big event that the city of Rabat organise for more than 8 years.In 2009 , people from Rabat was invited to see the performance of Elton John, Amy Winhouse, Withney Houston, and many others international famous singers. Last yearShakira and Cat Stevens and many others, This year of course there will be many others international singers, and all the shows are for free ( this Year we will have the show for LMFAO, Mariah Carey, Cheb Khaled, Jimmy Cliff, Scorpions, Waël Kfoury, Gloria Gaynor, Pitbull, Lenny Kravitz...)… so , we will organise every night to see one of the shows. The festival is organised from the 18th to the 28th. Participants in this project are asked to be motivated to learn Arabic, and to discover the aspects of Moroccan life, and also are asked to bring some of their cultures aspects to show in the intercultural evening…

Work : Contents of the trekking - intercultural exchange programme
The program includes 2 weeks of different activities:
The first week we will organise arabic langauge courses, visits of Rabat and salé and others historical sites in the region. in this week the participants lodge and eat in hosts families .
The second week will be reserved for visiting Marrakech and trekking in the high Atlas.

The project will be organized in collaboration with the local delegation of education,
it will take place in a school, and it consists on cutting bad plants inside the school and makefrescoeswith environment themeasoutreach activityfor students
During their work the volunteers will be leaded by a technician who will also
organize the work programme. The general organizations of the workcamp will be the
responsibility of another animator; the volunteers are invited to contribute in the general
organizations by sharing the responsibility of the workcamp every day with the general
animator. The volunteers can organize visits to Rabat monuments or to other cities
Food and Accommodation:
The full accommodation will be in the school. The
food will be prepared by the volunteers’ themselves (2v or 3v per day).
Location:
Rabat is the capital of Morocco; it's situated on the Atlantic Ocean. The climate is
normally warm in this month ; You can take with you your swimming clothes and also your warm closes are advised to be used in some fresh nights.
