To NUT Representatives in the Bradford District

STRIKE ACTION THURSDAY 30th JUNE

Dear NUT Representative,20th June 2011

Enclosed are letters to members explaining our decision to take strike action on 30th June in defence of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme, and our local arrangements for a rally and march on the day of the action. I would be grateful if you could distribute them and also put the poster on the Union noticeboard.

As the NUT Representative, you may be asked questions by members about the strike. More explanation of why we are striking, as well as practical information about the consequences of strike action for individual members in a variety of circumstances, can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions For School Representatives document. We are expecting that this will be sent to you by Head Office, but itis in any case available by following the link on the front page of the NUT’s website –

The Union has written to your Headteacher explaining our decision to strike and the number of members that we have, according to our records, in your workplace. This fulfils our legal obligations. There may still be issues that your head wants to raise with you about the action. If these are not answered by the FAQs, please feel free to ring us.

One thing that the head may do is to request a list of the names of members of the NUT. Such information is not needed at this stage to make pay deductions. Arranging these should wait until after the day of the strike, because possible illnesses, new members joining the Union or other issues will make those affected uncertain until after the action. If the head wants the information to decide whether the school needs to close or to make arrangements to send classes home, it would be appropriate before providing it to get a commitment that members will not be approached individually about whether they intend to strike, as they may feel intimidated by this.

We hope that you and your colleagues will join us at the Rally being held jointly with the ATL.

If we stand together, we can win.

John Howarth (Branch Secretary)
