MICU UPDATES September 9, 2016

To get blood glucose on your worklist:

  • Order you type "POC Glucose Whole Blood" and pick the POC one, not the "NUR" task.

ECMO class October 19th @ 9am

  • In order to attend the class you must be a CN2.
  • If you are a new hire you must be a CN2 and on the unit for 1 year unless you are coming from an institution where you did ECMO and already have that skill set

Being the Best as a Preceptor Class (DEV798B)

  • September 15, 201612:30 pm – 4:30 pm
  • This class is part of the credentialing program for DUHS preceptors. The goal of this class is to provide basic education for nurses wanting to develop in the preceptor role.
  • Target Audience: Any DUHS RN with at least 6 months of experience interested in learning the preceptor role.

Baldridge Site Visit September 19-22

  • Why care? What Magnetmeans to nursing is what Baldridge means to businesses.Attaining the Baldridge Award would give Duke a competitive edge for business’s seeking health care options.

Charge Nurse Friendly Reminder

  • Please return schedule board immediately to charge after using
  • If the board continues to go MIA, the solution to this problem will be to allow only scheduling committee members to remove the board from the charge office. All other staff will need to go to the charge office to check their schedule.

Education Committee

Bake Sale on September 16th at Duke Hospital Farmer’s Market

  • All Baked Goods need to be “healthy treats” per Live for Life Rules
  • Bring your vegetable breads (pumpkin, zucchini), trail mixes, granola, seeds etc.

Annual Skills Validation Day on November 15th

  • Sign-up sheet will be posted on November 1st.
  • The goal is to get everyone checked off on the 15th.

New Posey Chair Alarms

  • Formerly known as tabs monitors
  • In-services will be daily throughout shifts by rep
  • The chair pads will be stocked in the pyxis
  • Go-live date is Wednesday, September 14th
  • Each room will have an alarm with cord

Flu

Patients

  • Effective 9/11 at 0400 all patients must be screened using the influenza screening tool
  • If no contraindication to receive the flu vaccine-ALL patients must

Get the vaccine or decline it and it must be documented in maestro.

Employees

  • Flu blitz is September 15th!
  • We will have vaccines available on the unit for Duke employees
  • Medical/religious exemptions due October 10th
  • November 1st all Duke Employees must have received the flu vaccination that were not medically/religiously exempted or will be out of compliance and face disciplinary action.

Maestro

  • Updates will occur Saturday night.
