Re: After School Chess Club

Parents,

I am excited to announce the continuation of the Eastover Chess Club for the 2013-2014 school year. We are now in our 7thyear - last year the team won several trophies at area competitions, including best ever finish at the state championship! We also sent a team for the first time to the national championship! We will still meet Thursday afternoons immediately after school from 3:15-4:30 in the library. The first meeting will be Thursday, September 26, and the club will meet until the end of April. Club members should have reliable transportation home each week at 4:30. We hope to have our returning members return to lead the club, while new members join to add more talent.

The club will stress opening, middlegame, and endgame strategies, as well as tactics and advanced planning techniques. Chess club members will be taught the sportsmanship and etiquette of the game, and we will gather a team to compete in several local tournaments throughout the year. We will also get the chance to play online and with various Ipad chess apps.

No prior chess experience is required, but space is limited, so your child should be motivated and want to learn the game. Note that if you registering a first grader, he or she must be able to focus after the long day of school. The yearly tuition is $160.00 (about $6 per meeting) and checks can be made payable to Young Master Chess. For more information on me, please visit

If your child is interested, please fill out the attached application form. Forms are due back by September 20, 2013. If the club fills up, applications received first will have priority.

Applications should be mailed to Young Master Chess, 2500 Chesterfield Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205. Please do not return this form to school!

I look forward to working with your children. Please email me with any questions or concerns at .

Regards,

Mike Klein
