Aim and main purpose of the job
To support and assist nominated Head(s) of Year in their pastoral role particularly the education, physical and social needs of the students in their care.
Key areas of Responsibility - Student Focus
  • To develop a knowledge and understanding of the needs of students within the pastoral system at Samuel Ryder Academy
  • To establish supportive relationships with students
  • To develop methods of promoting/reinforcing the behaviour management policy
  • To develop methods of promoting the rewards and praise system
  • To supervise student(s) as and when required and to investigate incidents as and when appropriate reporting outcomes to the nominated HOY(s)/Key Stage coordinators
  • To mentor students
  • To manage the reward system
  • To cover lessons

Key areas of Responsibility - Staff Focus
  • To establish a supportive relationship with all staff
  • To liaise with form tutors, staff and other professionals regarding behaviour/academic concerns
  • To monitor student attendance in liaison with the Attendance officer.
  • To arrange appointments etc. as and when required
  • To be aware of curriculum targets and support work towards them
  • To lead assemblies, PSPs/CAFs and other meetings, Year group meetings, etc.
  • To support HOY/Assistant Head of Inclusionin overseeing the attendance, punctuality, appearance, behaviour and general welfare of the students in the year and house group. This includes ensuring the implementation of strategies to ensure high standards, providing guidance and support and seeing things through.
  • To provide administration support

Key areas of Responsibility - School Focus
  • To contribute to reviews of children’s progress as appropriate
  • To attend relevant in service training – INSET days/sessions
  • To be aware of and implement school procedures and policies
  • To assist in the organisation of Parents Consultation Evenings / Information evenings
  • To be aware of confidential issues linked to home/student/teacher/school work and to keep confidences appropriately

Liaison
  • To liaise with other colleagues, parents and other professionals as required (School Nurse, Social Services, educational psychologist etc.)

Assessment/Recording
  • To support HOYs in assisting overseeing the smooth conduct of yeargroup exams – leading pre-examination assemblies and preparation etc.
  • To prepare reports and references as required on individual students.

Communication with Parents
  • To liaise and foster a link with parents regarding school concerns, school activities and individual student development

Other Responsibilities
  • The Student Services Manager will carry out other responsibilities as consistent with their role
