Project: The sexual and reproductive health research in Latvia. The satellite conference “Reproductive health and demography. Solutions and future challenges”.

The project activities:

-Project Sexual and reproductive health in Latvia was implemented in 2 years period of time – starting February 2010, ending February 2011.

The quantitative research was conducted from 27.02.2011. till 17.04.2011. The publication “Reproductive health of population. Report of situation in Latvia (2003 – 2011)” was developed. The author of the publication is social anthropologist Aivita Putnina. The work group developing recommendations for the policy makers consisted from the stakeholders in the field, such as medical professionals, ministry civil servants, NGOs. Specialists of SRH field consulted and participated in the process of publication development.

The survey on “ Population reproductive health “ ( period from 2003-2011) is published ( 80 pages) and translated. The pdf copy of the translation is available at www.papardeszieds.lv For secondary analyses the data is available by request ( available only in Latvian).

-Organize Conference at the Parliament of Latvia (14.10.2011). Invite decision makers, ministries’ officials, SRH professionals, media and introduce with new data, main findings, recommendations. This will be satellite conference organized when 6th congress of Latvian gynecologists and obstetricians, and 4th RCOG Eurovision Conference will take place. Leading SRH experts will attend conferences, which give opportunity to share experience to Latvia’s decision makers.

Due to the political changes, the planned conference in the Parliament could not take place in October, as the unplanned elections of the Parliament took place in October 7. Therefore the experts from the 6th congress of gynecologists and obstetricians took place as planned and the experts were filmed and interviewed. The video material was shared with the conference in Parliament in February 3.

-Distribute publication to stake holders.

The publication launch took place in December 19. Decision makers, ministries’ officials, SRH, education and demography professionals where invited, 53 participants attended the launch that was held in Pauls Stradins Museum for history of medicine. The research launch was broadcasted in news of 2 central TV channels – national LTV1 and TV3.

The publication in ESC journal will be prepared by Ilze Viberga and sent for publication.

The planned and the actual expenses . The planned expenses were overspent and the difference was covered from organization’s resources.
