JOB PURPOSE:

  • To advise in the development of an age-appropriate, (KS1 + KS2), and high quality general programme of session for the University Holiday Scheme, encouraging a balance of educational and physical activities.
  • To ensure the welfare and education of the children attending the Holiday Scheme.
  • To develop and maintain good relationships between staff, children, parents and carers.
  • To work in partnership with the Holiday Scheme Manager and Head of Children’s Services in the delivery of the scheme
  • To ensure the children fully engage with all of the activities being offered.
  • To have knowledge of, be respectful of and implement all equal opportunities procedures that are concerned with the diversity and abilities of the children attending

Responsible for:

Working in partnership with the Holiday Scheme Manager

Prior to Holiday Scheme commencement:

  1. Revise the welfare plan in consultation with the Holiday Scheme Coordinator and the Holiday Scheme Manager;
  2. Cooperate with the Coordinator to plan the daily organisation and sessions to include practical operations, session activities, drop off and pick-up time activities and deployment of staff;
  3. Ensuring that there is a balance of educational, physical and general activities throughout the week to meet the expected needs and abilities of the children so far as is possible;
  4. Sourcing and developing suitable activities for periods where there are no planned educational or physical activities organised;
  5. Liaise with recruited activity providers to ensure that these activities are suitable for the age groups attending, have an informative content and add value to the HolidayScheme experience;
  6. Participate in the recruitment and training of Holiday Scheme Leaders;
  7. Liaising with the university designated person for safeguarding and gaining approval of the welfare plan from same;
  8. Participate in training to ensure all Holiday Scheme Leaders are able to work within the university safeguarding policy and have up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding issues.Have basic first aid knowledge and skills and understand the purpose of and are able to implement the welfare plan.
  9. Develop a system for ongoing evaluation of the Holiday scheme to include the thoughts of all stake holders, including the children, parents and carers, Holiday Scheme manager, Holiday Scheme leaders and the Head of Children’s Services;
  10. Jointly ensuring, with Holiday Scheme Manager and Holiday Scheme Coordinator that all staff are DBS checked and the requirements of the Welfare Plan are carried out;
  11. Ensuring that all risk assessments are undertaken for venues and activities, including those provided by the recruited activity providers, and completing risk assessments where none exist.

During the Holiday Scheme

  1. Implementing the welfare plan to ensure the wellbeing of the children;
  2. Ensuring that Holiday Scheme staff have fulfilled the training requirements in safe guarding and first aid and any other training deemed necessary;
  3. As duty officer, ensuring the welfare of the participating childrenand Holiday Scheme staff, whilst Holiday camps are running;
  4. Being fully aware of the Local Safeguarding Board procedures for reporting concerns about a child and being able to take appropriate action;
  5. Supporting the children to become fully engaged in all of the activities in order that they get the most out of the Holiday Scheme experience;
  6. Participating in an evaluation of the Holiday Scheme with the Holiday Scheme Manager, Holiday Scheme Leaders, participating children and their parents and carers;
  7. Working in equal partnership with the Holiday Scheme Manager to ensure the smooth running of the Holiday Scheme, the professional delivery of the Holiday Scheme aims and the safety and wellbeing of the children attending;
  8. Any other duty as required in the delivery of the Holiday Scheme.
