May READO!

To encourage your child to read and engage in literacy activities at home, here are some ideas. Once your child completes an activity, sign a corner of the box. When they get 5 in a row they get READO! and can bring the board in for a prize. Continue the activities throughout the month and see if you can fill up the whole board before the month is over! Have fun 

Choose one of your favorite stuffed animal and read them a story. / Write your own story about an insect of your choice. / Write three sentences using one of your sight words: of, have, from, by, my, do, one / Read a story. Talk about the beginning, middle and end of the story. / Draw and/or write about your favorite book you have read this month.
Cut out 10 objects from a magazine and label them to make a collage. (If you want, bring it in to hang in the classroom!) / Read a story and tell the person you are reading with about the main characters. / Help a family member write a grocery list. / Read two stories by the same author. Discuss how the stories are the same and different. / Look outside. Make a list of objects that have a long e or short e sound in the word.
Turn out the lights and read a story with a flashlight / Write a story using words from the -ug or –ut word family. / READO!
Free Space / Write three sentences using one of your sight words: of, have, from, by, my, do, one / Have a conversation about your favorite day in school. Tell why it is your favorite.
Read a story with someone and learn about a new word. / Look at a picture of a butterfly. Make a list of words to describe it. / Work with a family member to make a list of opposites either through conversation or written list. / Review your kindergarten trick words or word ring. / Write a story using words from the –et or –en word family.
Write a Mother’s Day card to your mom, grandmother, aunt or other female family member. / Turn out the lights and read a story with a flashlight / Watch a movie with someone in your family. Retell the story in your own words. / Play I-Spy with a family. Choose an object in your house and use describing words to help your partner guess the object. / Listen to someone read you a story. Discuss your favorite character and explain why.
