“AUSTRALIA IS AN INTERESTING COUNTRY”

Aims:

to develop reading and speaking skills;

Objectives:

The students will be able to

-discuss some points of the topic

-scan the text to find specific information

-practise the vocabulary;

2.  Warm –up/Revision on the topic travelling.

The story so far: Our friends Ken, Kate, Caroline, Uncle John

and Barker visited different places because they like travelling. Ask: Where

did they go? Do you remember? And you, do you like travelling ? What countries can people visit?

What can we see in Egypt, America, China, England ?

3. Presentation. Say: Today we’re visiting a very interesting country. It’ s name is Australia. Ask: Did you go to Australia? Would you like to visit this country?

Let’s start our journey and find out why Australia is a very interesting country? At the end of our journey we’ll answer the questions:

1.  How many people live in Australia?

2.  Who were the first people?

3.  What language do they speak?

4.  What interesting animals live there?

5.  What places can people visit in Australia?

·  Books closed: Pre-teach the new words (All the words are on the screen) by referring to the pictures.

·  Drill the new words.

·  Prediction: Ask pupils what the following words and numbers mean (on the screen the words and numbers appear) 17 million, 160.000, continent, hot and dry, English, crocodiles.

4. Reading. Books open (p. 36) Pupils read the text silently and answer he

questions after the text. (There are the same questions on the screen)

·  After reading: Pupils read out the questions and tell the answers.

5. Reading and writing. AB p. 36 Activity 6. Pupils complete the crossword puzzle. (The crossword is on the screen too).

6. Practice. Pupils answer the first questions .

·  Read and match. Pupils read and match the halves of the sentences, given on the screen.

·  Complete the text with the missing words ( on the screen).

·  Ask pupils to tell what they know and like about Australia with the help of the words on the screen.

7. Homework: Pupils prepare a whole story about Australia.

8. Give marks.

9. Ending the lesson. Ask: Did you like our lesson? Say: Thank you for your

work. The lesson is over. Bye.
