SUBJECT: Informal Memo for Job-Search Packet

It has been my goal ever since I received the Eide Bailly LLP scholarship in the fall of 2005 to work for them when I graduate from NDSU. Naturally, that was the first place I looked for a job announcement and once I found one I decided to do my Job-Search Packet for Eide Bailly LLP.

I am writing this as a requirement for English 320; Professional Writing. I am writing this packet as if I have graduated from NDSU and actively seeking my first employment position out of college.

Company Specifics

Eide Bailly LLP is one of the top 25 accounting firms in the region. They consist of 11 centers across eight states with 8,000 professionals working for them and have been in business since 1917. The firm offers accounting, audit, and tax services to over 22,000 clients. Eide Bailly makes a promise to all of their clients, “Our people, guided by strong principles will help transform your challenges into new possibilities.” I took the liberty of looking at their financial statements and found that Eide Bailly has a total income of $74,265,000 which is $12 million more than the previous year.

Job Requirements

The position that I will be applying for is an audit professional. The duties for this position would include the ability to perform the functions of a business professional and completing certain task of a business professional. I would be responsible for the planning and hosting of engagements, preparation of trial balances and other simple financial statements using audit software, along with the ability and knowledge to perform audits, reviews, and preparation of audit reports for the clients. To be considered for this job an applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, along with a CPA or working towards obtaining the CPA. Also, they are looking for a person with outstanding written and verbal skills and the capability to get along with other co-workers.

Personal Qualities

After reading the duties and qualifications for this job I felt that my personal attributes fit well with what Eide Bailly is looking for in an applicant. First, I have my Bachelor’s degree in accounting although I have yet to pass the CPA examination, I am currently working on it. Also, after meeting with Randy Johnson, the Human Resource manager at Eide Bailly in Fargo, I know that a big thing Eide Bailly is looking for is a person with a first-class personality that will fit in the organization. I am a person that can get along with anyone and be productive at the same time. However, I feel that one of my downfalls is my writing ability, but I make up for it with my verbal skills. I do feel that my skills are improving and hope to improve upon them greatly with completion of this course.

Conclusion

I believe that Eide Bailly LLP and the position of a professional auditor is an excellent fit for my long-term professional aspirations. I know that Eide Bailly has great opportunities for future promotion, even a chance to make partner within ten years. I have toured the office and met with several partners and employees of Eide and strongly believe in the company and their ethical beliefs.

Dear Ms. Grubb;

After speaking with Nicole Campbell, a firm-wide recruiter for Eide Bailly LLP, I learned that you are currently seeking a well-qualified professional auditor. I was thrilled to hear of the opening because as you may already know I was the Eide Bailly LLP scholarship recipient for 2005 and have been interested in your company ever since.

I feel with the quality education that I received from NDSU make me a good candidate for this position. I have taken several audit courses and worked extensively on audit projects. Besides my accounting classes I took many English courses that have made me a first-rate communicator, which is so important in this field of work.

Along with my several audit courses, I did a five-month internship with Larson-Allen LLP in their audit department. The skills I learned during my internship will help make for a smooth transition into your company. During my internship I learned how to use auditing software and helped on over a dozen audits during my time with them.

I would like to thank you for you consideration and would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you and discuss the matter more extensively. If you desire to contact me I can be reached at 701-200-1659 and would be happy to answer any questions that you may have. I can also be reached at . Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Ross Larson
