The Volunteer Development Departmentassists OIN in achieving the aims and objectives as outlined in the Volunteer Strategic Plan.
Job Purpose
The Volunteer Development Officer will be responsible for attracting, developing, retaining, engaging and deploying volunteers in order to meet the needs of Orphans in Need.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/KEY DUTIES
- To create, develop and implement a Volunteer Development work plan in line with the strategy of OiN.
- To create andimplement the recruitment procedure for volunteers
- To update the volunteer database with relevant details in an accurate and timely manner.
- To ensure the volunteer database is compliant with UK legislation.
- To ensure that all references and Disclosure and Barring Service procedures are processed accurately and on time.
- To be responsible for implementing and updating all relevant paper-based and electronic administration systems of the Volunteer Development department.
- To support in the recruitment and selection of OiN’s interns.
- To ensure the departmental requests for volunteers is fulfilled as and when required.
- To maintain and ensure that robust administrative systems (both electronic and paper-based) are in place to enable efficient and effective management of recruitment administration.
- To be the first point of contact for all volunteer queries.
- To attract and recruit an efficient volunteer network by liaising with community, faith institutions (with special emphasis on mosques), ISOCs, professionals, higher education institutions etc.
- To ensure the deployment of volunteers for fundraising activities as and when needed.
- To provide regular reports regarding activities of the Volunteer Development department as and when required.
- To develop and implement policies and procedures in relation to the Volunteer Development department.
- To monitor OIN’s Volunteer Development budget and provide regular reports to the manager.
- To develop budget for volunteer-based events and provide regular reports upon completion of respective events.
- To create and implement a volunteer induction programme
- To identify training needs for volunteers and research relevant development activities to meet those needs.
- To identify and implement techniques for engaging and retaining volunteers.
- To ensure health and safety of OIN’s volunteers.
- To liaise with the Fundraising Officer to ensure the implementation of volunteer-led fundraising activities on a regular basis.
- To keep up to date and implement good practice initiatives where relevant.
- Any other duties corresponding with the accountabilities of the post.

Essential
- Educated to Degree Level.
- Experience of conducting interviews.
- Experience of creating and implementing administrative systems.
- Knowledge of volunteer development initiatives.
- Excellent working knowledge of MS Office software, high level of competency in using Word, Excel, and Access (data input and running queries).
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate with a wide range of people.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with all stakeholders.
- Ability to motivate self and others.
- Good numeracy skills and the ability to produce reports to a high standard.
- Ability to prioritise, plan and organise workload often with conflicting constraints; demonstrates a structured and well organised approach to work.
- Flexible team player, with demonstrable track record of working under pressure
- Able to maintain a confidential system of records, both manually and on a database
- Creative thinking ability to develop innovative and productive programmes for volunteers
