RE:Senior Service Award

Theta Phi Alpha’s Senior Service Award is the highest award granted to a collegiate member. This national award is presented in recognition of a collegiate member in her senior year whose scholarship, leadership, character, and service to Fraternity and school has been outstanding during all of her years as a collegian.

All seniors in your chapter or colony who are graduating with an undergraduate degree during the 2011-2012 academic school year are eligible to be considered for this prestigious award. Please encourage each senior in your chapter or colony to apply. Enclosed with this packet are two applications; please make additional copies as needed for distribution to interested seniors. The application form is also available on line at in the Members only section, Resource tab under ‘Chapter Reports, Scholarships’. Additionally, enclosed is this packet is a Senior Service Award flier which you can post or make copies of and distribute.

The Senior Service Applications should be submitted to the Chapter Advisor or Colony Advisor by November 1 so that she may complete the application and forward it to the National Office by November 15. The alumnae members of the Advisory Board are requested to review all applications and forward no more than two candidates to the National Office. The review process and the names of the candidates forwarded to the National Office are to remain confidential.

If a chapter does not have an active Chapter Advisory Board, applications should be submitted to the Conference Director/Administrator by November 1 so that she may complete the application and forward it to the National Office by November 15. In this case, the letter of recommendation can be provided by the Traveling Educational Consultant or Conference Director/Administrator.

Please ensure that all the required materials are submitted with the application:

  • Application signed by the candidate and the Chapter Advisor /Colony Advisor/ Conference Administrator/Conference Director, or otherwise so indicated when submitted electronically
  • Letter of recommendation from the Chapter Advisor/Colony Advisor/Conference Administrator/Conference Director/TEC
  • Letter of recommendation from the college/university
  • Brief statement from the applicant highlighting her credentials for this award.
  • A picture of the candidate

Remember, the members of the Board of Trustees do not know every sister who is nominated for this award, and while many do not enjoy writing about themselves, the requested summary of activities, honors, accomplishments in office, and/or important moments as a sister of Theta Phi Alpha is very important to the selection process. This summary should build on or supplement information already provided in the application, not repeat it.

Also included in this packet only for Chapter Advisors and Colony Advisors is the Intent to Nominate Form. Please complete this form and return it to the National Office by October 15.

Theta Phi Alpha is proud of the 2011 recipients of the Senior Service Award on the attached list and we look forward to having a nominee from your chapter this year.
