Role summary
Together Women Project (TWP) provides support to females with multiple and complex needs and those facing social exclusion. TWP has a particularly focus on female offenders and those at risk of offending. TWP has centres in Hull, Sheffield, Bradford, Leeds, New Hall Prison and outreach services in Lincoln, Wakefield, Huddersfield and Halifax. TWP aims is to help vulnerable women turn their lives around and address issues which are linked to offending or which place a woman at risk.
TWP has received a grant from Comic Relief to improve access to sports and physical activity to TWP service users. Women are under-represented in sport and physical activity and need to be further supported to enable their access to activities which have a benefit to mental and physical health. The project will provide access to informal and formal sports and physical activities. There will be opportunities for women engaging in the project to become trained in informal sports leadership to equip them to deliver sports and physical activity opportunities in their communities. The project will be delivered from the Leeds and Bradford centres with 2 x Community Champions based in each centre.
Key accountabilities
  • To consult with women to ascertain what sport and physical activities they would like to take part in and respond where appropriate by directly delivering those activities requested or brokering access to council or privately run activities.
  • To deliver regular informal sports and physical activity opportunities from the Leeds and Bradford Centres e.g. health walks / jogging groups
  • To access formal sports and physical opportunities e.g. sports clubs / council facilities.
  • Refer women who are engaging regularly into informal leadership courses and support them to deliver sports and physical activity opportunities in their local communities.
  • To communicate with TWP Keyworkers the participation of women on their caseload so that engagement can be recorded.
