PRESS RELEASE

Carbon Market Data launches the World Emissions Trading Schemes Database

For Immediate Release – 30 March 2009

(London, United Kingdom) - Carbon Market Data, a carbon market research company based in London, is launching today online the World Emissions Trading Schemes (ETS) Database, which provides a unique point of access to information on the world’s carbon trading schemes.

“The World ETS Database will provide to carbon market players, political decision makers, as well as the general public, independent and transparent information on the carbon trading schemes currently developed in the world” explains Cedric Bleuez, founding managing director at Carbon Market Data. Bleuez points out that as the carbon trading market is becoming truly global, the World ETS Database will give a unique insight on the real carbon constraints faced by the energy and industry sectors in different regions of the world.

The World ETS Database currently includes data on the European Union’s Emissions Trading Scheme, the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (scheme that includes 10 Northeastern US States), as well as data on EEA countries (Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein), and Switzerland.

“Our data platform is very user-friendly and gives the opportunity to any internet user to learn more on the carbon trading schemes currently implemented in the world. We have also included a functionality which enables to search installations by location. This gives the opportunity to anybody to see how much CO2 is emitted by their local power plant or factory” adds Bleuez.

The Kyoto Protocol, an international agreement aiming at curbing worldwide greenhouse gas emissions, ends in 2012. Negotiations are currently taking place to create a “post-Kyoto” agreement and might lead to the creation of a global carbon trading market, linking cap-and-trade schemes around the world, from Japan to the United States, where a federal cap-and-trade scheme is currently discussed.

Carbon Market Data also aggregates carbon trading data at a company level, giving vital information on the carbon trading risk faced by hundreds of companies. According to Bleuez, “carbon trading is there to stay, and creates not only threats but also great business opportunities to organisations. The carbon market is becoming a mature market, and many company boards have now understood that carbon trading is not only a compliance mechanism, but must be part of the long-term strategy planning”.
