North Lakes Community Centre - Activity Room - Venue Information

Facility location

The Activity Room is part of the North Lakes Community Centre located on Level 2, 10 The Corso North Lakes, QLD 4509.

Community Centre specific booking conditions

To ensure the centre is available for community use and one off events, each hirer is permitted a maximum of six weekend bookings per financial year. A weekend booking is from 5.00pm Friday through to midnight the following Sunday.

After hours emergencies

Council’s after hours’ service can be used to report emergencies (e.g. unable to gain access or to secure the facility, equipment not working, broken glass panel or similar). Council will endeavour to resolve any issues however some issues may not be able to be rectified immediately. Call out charges will apply if they relate to the misuse of the facility or hirer error. For example, a hirer may be charged a call out fee if council is required to open a facility because the hirer omitted to pick up the key. This fee will be deducted from the security bond prior to releasing the balance to the hirer.Minor issues such broken crockery can be reported the following business day.

Terrace

The Terrace is a non-bookable communal area which includes tables and chairs. As the area can be used by many hirers at one time, it is important that hirers be respectful of others when using this area.

Community Centre inspections /orientations

Council provides prospective hirers with a complimentary inspection prior to booking to ensure the venue is suitable. Prospective hirers wanting to undertake additional inspections may only do so when other inspections are being conducted. Inspections are conducted between 8.30am and 4.30pm and 5.00pm to 7.00pm business days and are subject to the facility being available. Bookings are essential for all inspections.

Storage

The Activity Room has a designated area at the end of the room for storage of facility furniture and equipment. Furniture must be stacked in a neat and orderly fashion. Funds may be withheld from the bond or the hirer invoiced if the room is not, in council’s opinion, suitably packed away appropriately.

Hirers are unable to store equipment at the Centre.

Uncollected goods

All hirer property must be removed by the end of the hire period, unless special arrangements have been made. Any property left on the premises may be removed and disposed of at council’s discretion.

Amenities

The Activity Room has an internal disabled toilet with a baby change facility. Female, male and disabled toilets are located off the main foyer beside the lifts. There is an additional baby change facility in the disabled toilet.

Lighting

The lighting throughout the building is linked to a sensor system. Each room also has a manual light switch so that lights can be turned on.

Air conditioning

The air conditioning will turn on automatically when the lights in the room have been activated.

Audio visual equipment

There is no audio visual equipment in the Activity Room.

WiFi

There is no WiFi available in the centre.

Smoking area

In accordance with state legislation, no smoking is permitted in or around the facility. Smokers must ensure they are a minimum of 5 metres from any entrancewayand 10 metres from the playground/plaza area.
No smoking is permitted on the internal terrace area.

Cleaning

All areas must be left in a clean and tidy state. All benches are to be cleaned and all crockery and cutlery must be washed and returned to the allocated cupboard space, tables and chairs must be cleaned prior to being stacked neatly in the designated areas. Care is to be taken to ensure tables, chairs and any other items are not dragged across the floor.

If hirer cleaning obligations are not fulfilled, additional charges may apply and moneys deducted from the security bond.

Rubbish removal

The Activity Room has a small rubbish bin. Additional, bin liners can be found in the kitchenette drawer. At the conclusion of the booking all rubbish must be removed from the room and taken to the basement and placed into the appropriate industrial or wheelie bin. The bin area is located in the basement through the cream doors to the far right as you exit the internal lifts. As this is a green star building, please ensure rubbish is placed into the correct bins (i.e. recycling etc.).

Broken items

If you find something is broken, please ensure you put an ‘out of order tag’ (if appropriate) on the item and contact council to report it. Tags can be found in the Venue Information Folder located in the kitchen. If an item of cutlery or crockery is broken by accident please advise Council so that the item can be replaced and the stock level maintained.

Car parking

There are two entry points into The Corso complex (please refer to map below). The front entry doors to The Corso complex are located on level 2, which overlooks the outdoor courtyard area. There are internal lifts from the underground car park.

Restricted parking is available as follows:

  • on street parking along The Corso where customers can walk up a connecting ramp to the front entry doors;
  • in the underground car park, off Endeavour Boulevard where customers can take the internal lifts to level 2; and
  • in the external car park linked with The Space Youth Centre, with entrances off Endeavour Boulevard or Lakefield Drive where customers can take the external lift to the outdoor courtyard area and enter via the front entry doors.

Please note that there are parking restrictions in place in the underground car park and surrounding streets.

Disabled access and parking is available as signed. All signed parking restrictions must be adhered to by all hirers and visitors.

Access to facility

The basement roller doors, front foyer doors and the lifts are programmed to operate prior to the first booking. Generally, the basement roller doors will automatically close at 7.30pm. However, guests can continue to exit the car-park. Access is through the main foyer doors on level 2 or via the lift from the basement.

Access to the communal foyer is via a security swipe card system. The card reader is located on the right hand side of the main door. There are times when this door is unlocked due to groups using other parts of the centre.

Access to the Activity Room is via a security swipe card system. The security access card is issued once the booking has been paid and confirmed.

Collection of security cards

For casual hirers, the access card is available for collection two business days prior to commencement of the booking and is to be returned on the first business day following the conclusion of the hire. The access card is available for collection, during business hours, 8.30am to 5.00pm week days, from any of council’s Customer Service Centres located at:

  • Redcliffe Customer Service Centre, 1 Irene Street, Redcliffe
  • Strathpine Customer Service Centre, 220 Gympie Road, Strathpine (access from Hall Street).
  • Caboolture Customer Service Centre, 2 Hasking Street, Caboolture (access from Caboolture Town Square).

After hours’ key returns can be made at the Strathpine or Caboolture Customer Service Centres, in the drop boxes located on the left hand side of the entry doors

Groups who book the centre on a regular basis may be provided with a permanent security swipe card.

Access to rooms

Instructions for use are as follows:

The light will be red when the door is locked and the alarm is on.

  1. Swipe the card once in front of the card reader and the light will then turn green. This indicates that the door is unlocked and the area has been disarmed.
  2. To secure the room after your event, close the door behind you once all guests have left the room.
  3. Slowly swipe the card in front of the card reader three (3) times. On the second swipe the system will beep twice.
  4. After approximately 5 to 30 seconds, the reader will beep and the light will turn red to indicate the facility is secure.

It is important when exiting to ensure all doors are closed properly and secure.
