Title:YLT - OutreachYouth Worker(West Belfast)

Context

YLT (Youth Led Transformation) is an EA funded project, based on the ongoing pervasiveness of sectarianism in our society, and is an outreach initiative specifically addressing young people in Protestant, Unionist, Loyalist (PUL) communities whose lives are characterised by economic deprivation, low educational attainment and the potential for long term health problems.

Youthlink are the lead partner and Youth Initiatives and Comber YFC act as delivery partners across 5 sites: West and East Belfast, Lisburn, Banbridge and Comber. Each area has a 15hpw youth work post.

The project aims to equip young people with skills to develop positive relationships with others and enables them to become peer mentors towards their own communities.

The Key tasks for the worker are:

  1. To develop youth work contacts through weekly detached youth work in Colin area
  1. Support establishment of group work with interested young people which encourages dialogue around issues of culture and identity
  1. Support in recruit young people and help facilitate field trips to places of historic/ cultural interest
  1. Support in recruit and facilitate delivery of relevant OCN qualifications in conjunction with Youthlink
  1. Encourage participants to develop leadership skills and become peer leaders/volunteers
  1. Attend to administration related to YLT project and attend weekly team meeting for YLT
  1. To take a particular concern for the care and mentoring of young people in the project.
  1. To participate in some of the wider staff responsibilities of Youth Initiatives. This includes some staff meetings, training and development, administration and fund raising, and assistance in other Youth Initiatives projects as agreed with Line Manager.
  1. To take on other tasks and responsibilities as needed for the Project and in Youth Initiatives.

Work Pattern

The YLTOutreach Youth Worker is a 15hpw post set around specific time blocks which included detached youth work, centre based drop in, project team meetings, administration and other tasks as required by the project including field trips and residential weekends. Because of the nature of the outreach and detached youth work involved, the youth worker will regularly be required to work some evenings per week, atweekends andsummer weeks. Time involved in training is included in the weekly work schedule.

Support and Supervision

The YLTOutreach Youth Worker outreach youth workerwill be responsible to West Belfast branch manager for project outputs. The YI Management Team has directive and co-ordinating responsibility overseeing the projects of Youth Initiatives. Individual support will be arranged in consultation with the CEO.

Holidays: 20 days annual leave plus 9 statutory days (pro rota)

Salary: £19,624 (pro rata)
