TITLE:Prevention Education Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY: The Prevention Education Specialist will support the agency’s philosophies and programs at all times. The primary content areas of this position are domestic/sexual/family/elder violence. This position will provide leadership in the development and presentation of community education, prevention education and outreach and conduct prevention education activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Maintain a commitment to the mission and work of Crisis Services with a deep appreciation for and sensitivity to the guiding principles of the organization.
  2. Maintain a commitment to quality client service for the agency, allied partners, members, and communities at large.
  3. Prepares statistical reports, data management for program assignment and funder requirements.
  4. Develop and organize training materials/presentations; conduct community educationand prevention educationand trainings on domestic/family violence, sexual assault and elder abuse.
  5. Develop, monitor and evaluate all training materials that address the identified training requirements in accordance with business objectives and guidelines.
  6. Maintain proficiency in domestic/sexual/family/elder violence prevention initiatives and trends. Effectively utilize strategies that reflect best available evidence based research practices and procedures.
  7. Assist in the development of specialized training projects for the agency.
  8. Participate in regular staff meetings, collaborative meetings with other agencies, and community meetings;
  9. Requires mandatory on call responsibilitiesfor hospital response and Advocate hotlines per policy.
  10. Attend required training and professional development opportunities.
  11. Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of sexual violence and domestic violence dynamics and effects, public awareness and crisis intervention services. Proven skills and knowledge of principlesand methods for training and curriculum design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups. Professional verbal and written communication skills. Must have excellent organizational skills, with great attention to detail, and be able to maintain accurate records. Ability to prioritize, flexibility, and experience in working on multiple tasks efficiently and effectively. Must be able to set goals and create timelines for implementation; must be able work independently. Strong public speaking skills and comfort with groups large and small.

Education:Bachelor’s Degree in humanservice field, public health, social work oreducation. Excellent presentation skills: the ability to plan, prepare, facilitate and process group presentations for classroom or large groups. Computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Power Point and Internet required.

Experience: Minimumof 3 years’ experience, preferably providing direct services in sexual assault and family violence prevention work. Experience in staff training, development and supervision, working with and mobilizing a wide variety of stakeholders and prevention education. Awareness of best practices of sexual violence prevention, risk reduction and survivor support strategies. Demonstrated ability and experience to relate and engage diverse populations in a variety of settings. Ability to work professional autonomy and in a team environment; Knowledge of group dynamics and facilitation.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: The Prevention Education Specialist will maintain productive relationships with agency management, program staff, volunteers, union officials and employees.

External: Will work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders (e.g. hospitals, area colleges/universities, government agencies and others as required) to increase training and staff development to increase awareness, education and best prevention practices.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • General office environment; no exposures to extreme heat, cold, dust, noise.
  • Some travel may be required
  • 40 hours a week

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:Primarily a sedentary position with occasional standing, sitting, bending and reaching required.Ahigh energy level; comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
