The entire abstract should fit on one page with one-inch margins on all four sides of an 8 ½” x 11” paper. Please use 12-point Times New Roman font. Indent each paragraph with a tab. The body should be single-spaced. Your abstract should be in paragraph form. There is a 300-word maximum for the entire body of the abstract. The entire abstract should fit on one page. The presenting undergraduate author should be first author and the research mentor should be the last author. Any coauthors should be included between the first and last authors. Affiliations e.g. schools or institutions, should be included for all authors/coauthors and noted using superscript numbers.

Abstracts that do not following this formatting will sent back to the student to makerevisions and correct the formatting. An abstract’s content typically includes background info, the research question, approach, experiments conducted and conclusion. Abstractsnormally do not include diagrams or specific data. That information goes onto your poster.Please remember to check your spelling and grammar.

Your research mentor must review and approve your abstract. An individual authorized by the mentor may also review and approve the abstract. Mentors must confirm they have reviewed and approved the abstract with the understanding that the abstract will appear in an event program book. An abstraction confirmation form is online. Theabstract submission deadline is availableon the CNMS Undergraduate Research Symposium in the Chemical and Biological Sciences website. Submit your abstract using the online submission form.

Acknowledgements section - left adjusted (do not indent as you did for the body of your abstract). Please include the grant or other support information for your undergraduate research, if appropriate. Acknowledgements should also be included on your poster. The word count of the acknowledgement is not included in the 300-word maximum for the abstract. Check with the coordinator or director of the program that is sponsoring you if you have acknowledgement questions. Ask your research mentor what acknowledgement information would be appropriate.
