TITLE OF POST:Assistant Manager

REPORT TO:Manager/Assistant Director

ACCOUNTABLE TO:Praxis Care Group Board

Main Purpose of the Post

TheTemporary Assistant Managerwill assistthe Managerdischarge the full range of managerial responsibilities for the service. This will involve taking lead for specific tasks as delegated by the Manager as well as assisting the Manager with other functions. The registered Manager retains ultimate responsibility for the service. The Temporary Assistant Manager will lead the service in the absence of the Managerand be available to cover other temporary managerial vacancies as required.

Specific Responsibilities

1Service Users

(i)To ensure that all work within the service is participant focused and upholds the principles of respect, privacy, dignity, fulfilment, independence and choice.

(ii)To assist the Managerin assessment of new applicants to the service.

(iii)To liaise closely with relatives and carers of tenants/service users, ensuring confidentiality.

(iv)To assist with the organising and overseeing of the development ofprogrammes of support, assessments and reviews for tenants/service userson an individial basis.

(v)Direct staff and directly input into the meeting of care and support needs of Service Users. Depending on the nature of the service there may be personal care, manual handling or physcial intervenetion required.

(vi)To participate in the staff rota including sleep-in duties and working unsocial hours as required.

(vii)To ensure clear Service Users financial arrangements are in place, documented, understood by staff and monitored as per Praxis Care policies.

2Staff

(i)To support the registered Manager in the selection, appointment and induction of staff up to and inclding Team Leader level.

(ii)To assist the Manager to initiate, plan and facilitate induction and training packages for all staff.

(iii)To provide effective leadership, supervision and management of staff.

(iv)To manage workloads and identify and address staff development needs.

(v)To conduct regular staff meetings and ensure objectives and methods of work with each individual within the service are understood.

(vi)To address all matters concerning discipline, grievance, untoward incidents and complaints.

(vii) To monitor and keep accurate and detailed records of staff’s annual leave and time-in-lieu.

(viii) To manage the attendance of staff ensuring accurately and timely reporting of absences, conducting return to work interviews and ensuring the organisation’s Attendance Management policy is adhered to.

(ix) To foster a happy and therapeutic environment and a caring, supportive team.

(x) To promote good internal communication through informing and explaining organisational decisions to the staff team and advising Senior Management issues of staff concern.

3Community

(i) To develop good relationships with community groups and to keep these informed on the nature and progress of the service, as appropriate.

(ii) To develop good relationships with with neighbours and promote their understanding of the nature of the service within the boundaries of confidentiality.

(iii) To promote public education about learning disability, mental ill health, challenging behaviours and community care.

(iv) To promote Praxis Care as an employer of choice within the local community by supporting relevant careers fairs, schools and colleges and facilitating work experience and student placements where appropriate.

4Administration

(i)To plan, prioritise, monitor and evaluate the work carried out in the service.

(ii) To ensure that adequate records are maintained and necessary reports are produced and submitted internally and externally.

(iii) To ensure there is an effective assist communication system internally and externally.

(iv) To ensure that medication is held, stored and administered in accordance with Praxis Care’s Medication Policy.

(v)To assist in the organisation of efficient and effective duty rotas.

(vi)To have a sound knowledge of all policies, standards and specifications of the service and ensure staff understand and adhere to them.

(vii) To report the need for repairs and maintenance work in the service to the landlords and they are attended to in a timely fashion with regards to Health and Safety through reporting to landlords and escalation internally as appropriate.

(viii)To ensure that Legislation and Inspection Requirements are met in all pertinent areas.

5Service Development

(i) To assist the Manager with the development of the service and to formulate planstoimprove quality of existing services and extend or reshape the service to reflect emerging need.

6Finance

(i)To follow Praxis Care’s financial procedures and ensure all monies are correctly accounted.

(ii)To ensure the service is managed within the agreed budgetary parameters.

(iii)Where necessary, assist the manager to identify, agree and implement financial recovery measures.

7External relationships

(i)To liaise and communicate appropriately withcommissioners, regulators and other agencies in a way that promotes the wellbeing of Service Users and fosters a positive regard for the service and Praxis Care.

8Office/Health and Safety

(i)To be aware of and act in accordance with Praxis Care’s Health and Safety Policy.

(ii)To conduct all activities in a manner which is safe to yourself and others.

9General

(i) To participate in any internal committees/working groups as appropriate.

(ii) To participate in the out of hours consultation rota.

(iii) To carry out other duties as required.
