Summary/Objective: Direct and manage the university career services as it assists STEM major students, alumni, faculty, and employer clients in the development of career education, career identification and search, and pursuit of employment opportunities commensurate with formal academic pursuits. Continually expand the client/user base and scope of services to ensure provision of the widest array of services possible to the broadest mix of academic and corporate clients.

Job Description/Essential Functions:

  • Serves as the primary liaison between the university, students and alumni, and potential employers on a state, regional, national, and international scale.
  • Responsible for fiscal planning and management for career services, including all operations and staffing matters.
  • Serves as adviser and interfaces with representatives of the industrial, governmental, and educational employers to assist in the most effective use of career services' efforts. Also supports the marketing of other university college and departmental efforts.
  • Develops new contacts with external organizations for the purpose of expanding employment opportunities for students and alumni.
  • Reviews and supervises resume referral and job-listing services for current students as well as alumni. Coordinates professional development workshops, seminars, and trainings for students and alumni.
  • Closely coordinates communication with STEM department (i.e. deans department chair, and faculty) to ensure that the career services department is meeting the needs and desires of the STEM department, within the limitations imposed by the size of the staff and financial support provided by the university.
  • Constantly monitors, analyzes, and evaluates current scope of services offered through career services and plans, implements, and directs new programs under the supervision of the Vice President of Student Affairs and in coordination with other directors of student services and student activities efforts. Serves in a leadership role in various professional organizations including, but not limited to, the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and those regional affiliates which provide broad opportunities for job development activities.
  • Provides career advising expertise to STEM students and alumni regarding the job-search process, interviewing, resume, and letter writing, and all other facets of career planning. Conducts workshops, seminars, and other presentations to student, faculty, employer, and alumni groups.
  • May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Education and Experience: Academic preparation in a student counseling discipline will be considered if supported by directly-related employer college relations, recruitment, or staffing experience. Must be able to effectively interact with faculty, staff, students, parents, and administrators.

Required Qualifications: Master's degree in the STEM discipline or a degree directly related to staffing, employment, career development and planning, or a minimum of 7 years of combined university career services and/or corporate recruitment management experience is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, strong written and verbal communications skills, and effective organizational and management skills.

Work Environment:Thorough understanding of and commitment to the goals and responsibilities of the centralized career services concept. Nationwide professional contacts in both the university and employment sectors. Demonstrated public relations/marketing abilities to be used on behalf of the university as a whole and career services specifically.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more.
