Title: Human Resources Director

Location: 290 HUMBERLINE ETOBICOKE (Toronto), ON

The Director, Human Resources is responsible for the overall operations of the HR Department and its associated programs and functions in support of corporate goals and objectives. This will be accomplished by conducting short- and long-term planning efforts, designing HR programs, and overseeing the development and implementation of company policies and procedures.

This role is also responsible to manage budgets for HR administration and engage the organization in achieving its business and people objectives, as well as remaining current with all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations, timely policy interpretation and subsequent actions.

Acting as an advisor, this role further requires the individual to maintain positive relationships between the management team and employees.

The Director of Human Resources reports directly to the SVP & General Manager with dotted reporting to the Vice-President of Human Resources at Tubelite/Alumicor. He/she will participate in group meetings and councils as required, and introduce Apogee concepts and programs to Alumicor as appropriate.

Major Function/Responsibilities:

Employee/Labour Relations

-  Provide guidance and advice to Supervisors/Managers, assistance and follow-up on company policies, procedures, and documentation including discipline and performance management.

-  Assist in the creation of a unified Alumicor culture.

-  Participate, as necessary, on employee committees, be visible on plant floor, assist/organize staff events, etc.

-  Maintenance of employee communication systems such as bulletin boards and employee form centres.

-  Provide assistance to employees regarding personal or job related problems.

-  Act as a liaison between management and employees concerning work or behavioural issues.

-  Oversee personnel management, including wage increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions in compliance with company policies.

-  Represents the organization in labour negotiations, lawsuits, and complaints.

Health, Safety and Wellness

-  Administer and educate employees of benefits and maintain a sustainable relationship with insurance providers.

-  Monitor progress of employees who are on return to work or modified programs to ensure smooth integration.

-  Act as back up and support the Health and Safety Program in all areas of the business as required.

Human Resources Management

-  Lead the implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and development of the company’s HR strategies and procedures.

-  Review existing and forthcoming legislation to determine HR impact on the organization; make recommendations regarding legislation.

-  Oversee all of the Human Resources department operations and processes.

-  Ensure management activities regarding human resource issues are legally compliant.

-  Facilitate change management and initiate projects where the need exists.

-  Research, develop and implement Human Resources policies and procedures consistent with Alumicor’s Core Values, Vision, Principles and workplace legislation.

-  Act as a resource regarding the interpretation and application of policies and procedures and government legislation in connection with human resources matters.

-  Prepare and manage department budget.

Learning and Development

-  Make recommendation, provide direction, guidance, support of employee training and development programs.

-  Develop and deliver/oversee Employee training such as new hire orientation, etc.

-  Promote continuous corporate improvement, including personal and organizational goals to develop leadership capacity.

Recruitment and Staffing

-  Provide direction, guidelines, support and generally oversee the recruitment function: Job postings, interviews, recommendations, offer letters, candidate responses, organizational announcements, etc.

-  Consult and support Managers in addressing workforce and retention needs and issues.

-  New hire orientation and follow up of new employees through probationary period (coaching, training, assessment).

-  Process termination, execution, exit interview and reporting.

Compensation & Benefits

-  Maintain and update company salary structure and pay grades.

Competencies and Qualifications

-  Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) with a University degree or College Diploma in Human Resources with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience in a professional human resources position.

-  Demonstrated work knowledge of multiple human resource areas.

-  Demonstrates a strong knowledge of Employment Practices as it relates to HR concepts and applications around disability management, Health and Safety due diligence, Recruitment, Payroll, and Employee Relations

-  Research and data analysis skills required.

-  Strong computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Office suite.

-  Demonstrated ability to provide beneficial recommendations to solve HR related issues related to regulations, laws and policies.

-  Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills, with the ability to develop and implement strategies.

-  Excellent time and project management skills, with a demonstrated knowledge of change management.

-  Must be able to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.

-  Strong facilitation and conflict resolution skills

-  Superb writing and content development skills.

-  Strong presentation, oratory, and verbal skills.

-  Presents a professional image (appearance and manners), confidence and decisiveness when dealing with people.

-  Politically and culturally sensitive. Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.

-  Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.

-  Demonstrates the ability to build and develop meaningful, professional, and responsive relationships with corporate departments, key external stakeholders.

-  Attention to detail in all areas of work.

-  Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures

-  Motivated individual with proven initiative.

Work Conditions

-  Manual dexterity required to operate computer and peripherals.

-  Will be required to wear protective equipment in designated areas such as: hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection and steel toed safety shoes.

-  May be exposed to heat and humidity, loud noise levels and exposure to dust.

-  Travel is required.

-  Overtime may be required.
