1 – Get ready

[Visual transition/change]

Screen transitions into a white walled workshop with various red coloured tools, equipment and car maintenance items in the background. In the centre of the shot, stands abig two wheeled red motorcycle that is propped up by a kickstand, the front of the bike faces towards the left of the screen.

Position the motorcycle

[Narrator]

Prop your motorcycle on its stand on flat, levelled ground. Make sure you never try this with the motorcycle running.

[Visual transition/change]

Screen changes to a zoomed in shot of the kickstand propping up the motorcycle, it can clearly be seen that the ground is level.

Page transitions to a white screen with text instructing the viewer that this is the second step of the process.

2 – Clean chain

[Visual transition/change]

The screen transitions to a close up look at the back of the motorcycle from the mechanics perspective. You can see the mans hands in front of him, he is wearing purple gloves and holding a white rag in his left hand while there is a can of chain cleaner in his right. He sprays the cleaner onto the rag and then starts to clean a portion of the chain by rubbing the rag back and forth on the lower level of the chain links.

[Text displays]

Spray cleaner and wipe it

[Narrator]

Give the chain a clean by spraying cleaner and wiping it with a rag. If on a stand, rotate the wheel slowly with your hand so you can get to the whole chain.

[Visual transition/change]

The screen transitions to a close up of the chain where it meets the back wheel, the mechanic turns the pedal to move the chain around so he can clean the entire chain while remaining in the same location. The mechanic does this by continuing to scrub the lower level of the chain with the rag that has chain cleaner applied to it.

[Visual transition/change]

The camera shot does not change, but now the mechanic has a purple cleaning brush in his hand and is using it to clean the lower level of the chain links by scrubbing it back and forth, he once again uses the pedal to rotate the chain around to make the cleaning easier.

Scrub chain with brush until clean

[Narrator]

Now it’s time to scrub it with a brush. If the chain is particularly dirty, rinse off with a hosepipe.

3 – Lubricate chain

[Visual transition/change]

Screen transition back onto a shot of the back chain gear withrear tire of the motorbike clearly seen. The mechanic is placing a piece of brown cardboard in front of the wheel but behind the chain. He then sprays the chain links with the lubricant while rotating the wheel with his other hand so he can cover the entire surface of the chain while staying in one fixed position.

[Text displays]

Spray the lubricant onto the chain

[Narrator]

Hold a piece of cardboard behind the chain, rotate the wheel to get the chain moving and spray the lubricant onto the inside face of the links. If you can reach it, spray lubricant onto the other side of the links as well.

[Visual transition/change]

Screen transitions into a close up shot of the motorcycle chain links, the mechanic is using the rag to remove any excess lubricant by rotating the wheel and moving the rag he is holding back and forth on the chain.

[Text displays]

Remove excess lubricant

[Narrator]

Once lubricated, leave for a few minutes before wiping the chain down, removing any excess lubricant. While you’re there, check your chain is in good condition and that the teeth on the sprocket aren’t worn to see if either needs replacing. You’re all done now and your chain is properly lubricated and ready to go.

[Visual transition/change]

The screen transitions between three shots of the mechanic bouncing the lower chain links up and down with his fingers to check if the chain is in good condition. He further inspects the teeth on the sprocket of the back tire to see if there is any wear and tear to decide whether the chain needs replacing. Finally the mechanic is seen behind the bike with the rear wheel in the air, he is rotating the wheel to check if the chain is in fact rotating comfortably.

[Visual transition/change]

The screen transitions into a completely white summary screen in which text slides into the middle of the shot from right to left. This text details a quick three-step summary of how to complete this task of lubricating a motorcycle chain.
