Primary Purpose of the Job:

Responsible for locating, researching and writing grants for funding from a variety of government, community, foundation and corporate funders in support of CMHP’s community development and housing programs. Reports to the Director of Communications and Advancement and routinely interacts with program staff, Board Resource Development Committee and Advancement Associate.

Essential Duties:

  • Research, evaluate and recommend grant opportunities to help fund CMHP projects and programs
  • Write grant proposals in accordance with grantor standards or requirements, including timely, error-free submissions (often via electronic grant application systems); gain required internal approvals as dictated by policy
  • Work collaboratively with the appropriate CMHP program staff to identify and gather the program/project information and data necessary to develop grant proposals
  • Establish productive working relationships with grantor/funding agency administrators to remain familiar with their funding priorities/opportunities and help establish awareness of potentially fundable CMHP programs
  • Working with the Director of Advancement, make presentations before potential grantors to determine viability of request
  • If joint funding opportunities exist, work with partner agencies to develop funding proposals
  • Gather the necessary information, write and submit grant program status reports as determined by policy and/or collaborate with the compliance department which monitors and reports on government grants
  • Maintain complete and timely grant files, including copies of the RFP, submitted proposals, award letters and checks, gift acknowledgements and grant reports
  • Maintain a grants calendar and provide grant status reporting as determined by the Director of Advancement
  • Ability to write creatively using correct grammar and punctuation and present a compelling case for support
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and guidelines

  • Ability to handle stressful situations and manage multiple projects

    Required Knowledge & Experience
  • The ideal candidate will have strong project management experience, experience managing grants and/or contracts and a deep understanding of non-profit compliance and financials.
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit and resourcefulness in problem solving
  • Outstanding organization and prioritization skills - ability to manage multiple demands, projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of computer proficiency, particularly with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience or interest in philanthropy, nonprofits, foundation operations and management
  • Ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned duties

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • At least five (5) years’ experience in grant research and writing or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
  • Working knowledge of Federal, State and private foundation grant programs, as well as rules and regulations for grant programs
  • Proven record of successful grant preparation/Strong writing and computer skills

Required Education:Any combination of education and experience which is equivalent to the completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in English, Communications, Marketing, Business or Public Policy

Working Condition: Office and occasional work in inner city neighborhoods

Safety Hazards: Inner city neighborhoods. Protective equipment and/or apparel must be worn on construction sites.
