  1. ADMISSION NORMS

1.1.DEFINITIONS

1.1.1.The College – means the WaterbergFETCollege

1.1.2.NCV – National Certificate (Vocational)

1.2.PURPOSE:

Prospective students need to adhere to pre-set admission norms before they can enroll. Admission norms are set by the Department of Education as well as the College, depending on the nature of the programmes presented. The Collegeand its programmes are marketed to potential students.

1.3.RESPONSIBILITY:

The Department of Education as well as the Academic Board of the College is responsible for the determination of the admission norms.

1.4.TIMELINE:

The admission norms are applicable to prospective students before enrolment.

1.5.AUTHORISATION AND REVIEW:

The norms are determined and reviewed by the Waterberg FET College Academic Board and submitted to College Council for approval.

1.6.DOCUMENTATION:

1.7.PROCEDURES:

1.7.1.SET ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

1.7.1.1.The WaterbergFETCollegeand the Department of Education set the admission requirements for all intended programmes before enrolment commences.

1.7.1.2.Minimum admission requirements for Department of Education programmes are set by the Department, and are circulated to each College for distribution to campus sites. Theseadmission requirements are set in the NATED 191 document and NCV admission requirements. (See addendum A)

1.7.1.3.The Academic Board sets admission requirements in line with the DOE set requirements (see attached addendum A). The admission requirements are approved by the College Council.

1.7.1.4.The Academic Board sets the minimum admission requirements for Non-DoE programmes internally. The College Council approves the admission requirements.

1.7.1.5.Students with disabilities can only be accommodated where the infrastructure and facilities of the College allow such.

1.7.1.6.A non-refundable admission fee will be charged during registration.

1.7.1.7.The approved admission requirements for existing programmes are reviewedperiodically.

1.7.1.8.Programme reviews should be conducted after every three (3) years by an external authority/agency.

1.7.2.COMMUNICATION OF ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS TO PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

Minimum admission requirements for programmes are communicated to prospective students through the College prospectus sent to the schools, career exhibitions,advertisementsetc. Marketingis responsible for this activity which is from time to time authorized by Management.

1.7.3.REVIEW OF PRESPECTIVE STUDENT QUALIFICATIONS

1.7.3.1.Prospective students need to supply their original qualification documents when enrolling for a qualification programme.

1.7.3.2.The lecturer/administrative officer responsible for the enrolment of the student should verify the following documents which should be supplied at registration:

1.7.3.2.1.Proof of identity, e.g. Identification Document/Passport. If a copy of this documents is supplied it must be certified.

1.7.3.2.2.Proof of qualifications e.g. original documents reflecting Grade 9 – Grade 12 results, printout of results for courses passedin prior year for authenticity and accuracy thereof. Whenever in doubt, the institution that issued the report will be contacted to confirm the authenticity.

1.7.3.3.The reviewer should ensure that the qualifications supplied by the student comply with minimum admission requirements for the desired programme.

1.7.3.4.One copy should be made of the student’s identification document/passport and qualification documentation and it should be attached to the completed registration form.

1.7.3.5.If a student applies for a DoE/College bursary, another copy(s) of his/her identification document/passport should be made and attached to the completed bursary form.

1.7.3.6.Existing students, wishing to enroll for a successive academic period, only need to supply documentation relating to the results obtained for the programmes completed.

1.7.3.7.The Senior Education Specialists discuss results obtained with students on an individual basis, before commencement of the next enrolment period.Guidance will be provided regarding their future options.

1.7.3.8.The relevant Centre can make a printout of a student’s academic record/transcript upon request.

1.7.3.9.Prospective students holdingforeign qualifications can be tested by SAQA to determine whether they are adequately qualified to comply with admissionrequirements for the courses they wish to enroll for. It is the student’s responsibility:

to contact SAQA for verification of his/her qualification, and

to submit to the College a compliance letter from SAQA stating that the admission requirements for the course the student wish to enroll, is met.

1.7.3.10.Admission requirements do not apply for students when an organization approaches a centre to do specific training of staff members. These students are not to be included in FTE numbers.

1.7.3.11.Exceptions (e.g. where programmes are developed to address specific needs on request by an outside organization) need to be dealt with separately. The Centre Manager, together with the relevant Senior Education Specialists should assess all the details relating to the application to ensure that prospective students will be able to complete the programme developed for them.

1.7.3.12.The Academic Board has discretionary powers over all academic matters.

ADDENDUM A

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  1. NATED PROGRAMMES

1.1.ADMISSION CRITERIA

A student will be admitted if he/she satisfies the requirement as set out by the Department of Education and the College. The Department of Education requirements are:

1.1.1.A student will qualify for a National Certificate on completion of a minimum of 4 subjects per level, ranging from N4-N6.

1.1.2.A student must have passed the previous level of a subject before enrolling on the next level.

1.1.3.Progression into the next level programme (e.g. N4-N5) is permitted only when a student has passed a minimum of 3 subjects.

1.1.4.Computer Practice subjects may not be entered for exam only.

1.1.5.A student will qualify for a National Diploma when evidence of 18 months in-service training/experiential learning is provided. In-service training/experiential learning can be done simultaneously with their studies.

1.2.REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

The registration procedure as outlined by the Department of Education is:

All students who register must provide the following:

Certified copy(s) of their ID document.

Original copy of Grade 12 report.

Certified copy(s) of their parent(s)/guardian(s) identity document(s).

  1. NATIONAL CERTIFICATE VOCATIONAL (NCV)

2.1.ADMISSION CRITERIA

A student will be admitted if he/she satisfies the requirement as set out by the Department of Education and the College. The Department of Education requirements are:

A year end school report for grades 9, 10, 11 or 12 certificate; or

An NQF Level 1 qualification; or

An approved bridging programme designed for the specific purpose to access NCVLevel 2.

In order to obtain a National Certificate (Vocational) it is compulsory for a student to take a total of 7 subjects. These include 3 fundamental subjects and 4 vocational subjects.

The fundamental subject- First Additional Language shall be English which shall be the language of teaching and learning.

Students will qualify for a National Certificate (Vocational) after completion of all the levels (NCV Level 2, 3 and 4).

The College requirements are:

A pass in grade 9.

All students must write a Placement and Competency Test before admission to NCV programmes.

Closing date for applications for first year students, NCV Level 2, shall be end of October of each year.

2.2.REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

The registration procedure as outlined by the Department of Education is:

All students who register for NCV must provide the following:

Two (2) certified copies of their ID document. (One to be attached to registration form and one to be attached to bursary form if applicable.)

Original copy of Grades 9, 10, 11 or 12 report, an NQF Level 1 qualification or an approved bridging programme report for the specific purpose to access NCV Level 2.

Certified copy(s) of their parent(s)/guardian(s) identity document(s).

When applying for a DoE NCV Bursary the students must also submit:

Proof of income of parent(s)/guardian(s) (salary/pension statement) or a sworn affidavit if no proof of income is available.

In order to obtain a National Certificate (Vocational) qualification a student is required to take a total of 7 subjects. These included 3 fundamental subjects and 4 vocational/compulsory subjects.

Students will qualify for a National Certificate (Vocational) after completion of all the levels (NCV Level 2, 3 and 4).

  1. SKILLS COURSES

3.1.ADMISSION CRITERIA

A student will be admitted if he/she satisfies the requirement as set out by the Accreditation Body and/or the College. The following are some of the criteria applied:

  1. PART-TIME COURSES

4.1.ADMISSION CRITERIA

A student will be admitted if he/she satisfies the requirement as set out by the Accreditation Body and/or the College. The following are some of the criteria applied:
