HOURS:35 per week

ANNUAL LEAVE: 25 days pro rata + 3 days to be taken between Christmas and New Year. Plus Bank and Public holidays

JOB DESCRIPTION

This job description gives an outline of the main duties of the post. It does not form part of the contract of employment and may be changed from time to time in consultation with the postholder.

Carers UK operates in an environment of teamwork and mutual support and the postholder will be expected occasionally to help other colleagues. Likewise s/he can expect assistance in return when necessary.

Aims of the Post

Tomanage and develop the operations of Employers for Carers (EfC) as an innovative and practical membership forum and as a service to employers.

To manage and deliver services for, and relationships with, current member organisations.

To develop, manage and deliver training and consultancy products for member (and non member) organisations.

To promote the business benefits of supporting carers in the workplace to employers, along with EfC membership and services in order to grow EfC.

KEY TASKS

Member services

  1. Manage, develop and deliver services for EfC member organisationsvia the EfC website and other communication channels.
  1. Oversee the development and content of the EfC website including ensuring that both the public and member sections are updated regularly.
  1. Manage, develop and produce a range of practical resources for managers and employees such as employer guides, toolkits, newsletters, articles etc
  1. Initiate and organise a programme of regular EfC member events.
  1. Manage the membership process including arrangements for recruiting, joining up, engaging and retaining members and overseeing the annual membership renewal process.

Training and consultancy

  1. Develop and manage EfC training and consultancy services and projects, including products for member and non member organisations.
  2. Contribute to the delivery of EfC training and consultancy services.

Business development and promotion

9. Carry out business planning and development activities in order to growEfC
both as a membership forum and as a practical training and consultancy
service, including identifying, approaching andmanaging a pipeline of new
employer contacts.

10. Manage the EfC operational budget to ensure that EfCcontinues

to develop into a self sustaining service in the longer term.

  1. Manage and implement a communications strategy to raise awareness of EfC and of the business benefits of supporting carers in employment.
  2. Contribute to topical policy issues to promote awareness of EfC more widely, including working with Carers UK to respond toconsultations,queries, and invitations to speak at relevant events.

Other

  1. Manage the operations ofEfC as a membership forum and training and consultancy service including: EfC member events, invoices, contracts, publications orders, membership records and new business pipeline.
  2. Line manage members of staffengaged in EfC related activities where appropriate.

General Duties

15. Attend Carers UK staff meetings and other meetings as required.

16. Work in accordance with the Equal Opportunities Policy of Carers UK.

18. Carry out other duties appropriate to the post as directed by theHead of Employers for Carers.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Skills/Experience required

  1. A demonstrable understanding of workplace policies and practices and the business environment.
  2. Experience of project management, including track record of working on own initiative and prioritise own workload.
  3. Team management experience, including ability to initiate and oversee the completion of work in a range of different areas
  1. Demonstrable business planning skills, including the ability to identify new business opportunities and develop and deliver them.
  1. Track record of effective liaison, consultation and negotiations with external organisations, including at a senior level.
  1. Excellent ability to communicate orally and in writing, including preparing papers, and making presentations at external meetings and events.
  1. Good financial awareness, including experience of managing budgets.
  2. Demonstrable ability to manage a combination of different, often complex, tasks and work effectively and efficiently to tight deadlines.
  1. To be flexible in response to changing projects and priorities in terms of identifying, planning, organising and delivering services and activities.
  1. An understanding of and commitment to equality and diversity.
  2. An ability to use MS Office, in particular Word and Excel, and an informed appreciation of new technology and its potential applications.
  3. A willingness and ability to travel throughout the UK.

Desirable Skills/Experience

  1. Experience of developing and delivering training sessions for external organisations.
  2. An informed appreciation of the challenges and issues facing unpaid carers and an ability to relate to and empathise with the needs of individual carers.
