Working Hours

This is a part time post working 30 hours per week. Days and times by agreement worked over four or five days. However, as a member of the fundraising team you will need to work flexibly and may need to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Salary

£24,959 to £25,685pa for30 hours; dependent upon qualifications and experience.

The Person

You must be an excellent planner who can work to tight deadlines andplan effective fundraising campaigns. You will be able to manage your time well and work to agreed targets. As a fundraiser your skills as a wordsmith will be called upon from the very beginning. Your ability to put together funding bids and to explain complicated subject matter in a clear and concise manner will be an essential skill in this role.

You will be a real “people person”able to speak confidently and eloquently about Chailey Heritage Foundation with donors and prospective donors as well as have the ability to influence internal colleagues within the Foundation to produce the relevant information you need for funding bids in a timely manner.

Background Information

Chailey Heritage Foundation is the registered charity overseeing Chailey Heritage School, Chailey Heritage Residential and Futures@Chailey Heritage. We are based at a beautiful site between Haywards Heath and Lewes in East Sussex.

2015 sees real investment in fundraising at Chailey Heritage Foundation and has put legacy fundraising high on the agenda. We want this post to spearhead the legacy fundraising strategy and act as deputy to the Development Director. Having worked with a legacy consultant we have developed a strategy for developing this income stream. Focusing on key target audiences, we wish to see significant growth in legacies within five to ten years and this post will therefore need to focus attention in this area.

As well as developing legacy income, this role will also focus on higher value fundraising from high net worth individuals and trusts as well as statutory bids, this post will need to put together excellent cases when seeking financial support in order to present the charity in the most professional light.

Finally, a significant capital appeal is likely to be launched within the next couple of years; this post will work alongside the Development Director to front this campaign.

Main Purpose of the Job

Working with the Development Director to,as well as developing legacy income, this person will manage the fundraising function at Chailey Heritage Foundation and act as the right hand person and deputise for the Development Director as required.

Responsibilities

1)Legacy Fundraising

a)Launch the legacy fundraising strategy with the key target audiences and significantly develop this area.

b)To be responsible for increasing income in this area.

2)Major Donors

a)To be the primary writer and developer of fundraising cases for support. This will involve working alongside colleagues across the organisation to gather the required information, case studies, budgets etc. to complete these applications for support.

b)To submit funding applications at all levels of income to Trusts, Foundations, Lottery, Companies and Statutory agencies.

c)Grow the current supporter base, the value of gifts and the number of repeat donors.

d)Working alongside the Development Director, front future capital appeals and raise significant funds from all sources mentioned above.

3)General Fundraising

a)Run and attend fundraising recruitment events at Chailey Heritage Foundation and in the local area with the aim of encouraging new prospects to start giving to the charity.

b)Manage and oversee the fundraising database, ensuring that it is used as a development tool and is used strategically to report regularly on fundraising performance and plan improvements.

c)Manage the Donations committee - service delivery staff pitch projects they would like funded and the committee chooses which projects shall be taken forward for funding.

d)Produce funding reports at regular intervals for the Senior Management Team and Trustees meetings, and other reports as required.

4)Management

a)Act as deputy to the Development Director, attending meetings as and when required and covering her duties when she is on leave.

b)To manage the fundraising team on a day to day basis, overseeing and allocating work as appropriate.

c)To provide advice and guidance, undertaking performance management and other HR related duties.

Qualifications /
  • Educated to A level or equivalent
  • Member of Institute of Fundraising (D)
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent (D)
  • Recent, relevant experience in either a Fundraising or Sales and Marketing environment

Knowledge and Experience /
  • Proven track record in leading successful fundraising campaigns
  • Experience of database marketing; proficient in Microsoft (Word/Excel/ Powerpoint), website, social media and database systems
  • Experience producing budgets, business planning and the ongoing monitoring of income and expenditure.
  • Demonstrable experience of fundraising research
  • Good knowledge of Gift Aid and Data Protection legislation
  • Experience of financial management, including budget setting and reporting
  • Experience of supervising and directing small groups of staff
  • Experience of using databases. Able to devise spreadsheets / to assist with analysis and drafting of reports
  • Experience of preparing papers for meetings, writing minutes and ensuring agreed action taken
  • Experience of working as part of a team and to cover as required if staffing the office alone

  • Proven success in raising significant funds across all voluntary income streams and bespoke fundraising events, including Trusts, Foundations, Lottery, Companies and Statutory agencies
