JOB DESCRIPTION
Title:Deputy Area Manager
Department: Inspire
Reports t0: Area Manager
Main function:To provide the highest possible standards of support to Service Users. To assist the Area Manager to develop current Services in line with appropriate Government, local and regional, strategies, to identify new opportunities for growth and to secure commissioning arrangements for these services. Within that context he/she will be expected to work closely with the Area Manager and on their own initiative.
Main duties and responsibilities are to:
- Customer & Client Focus
- To work in line with the Area Manager to support staff. To ensure that staff develop & maintain a trusting & professional relationship with Service Users and act in a supportive & empathetic manner towards them.
- To provide guidance and training for Staff, Service Users and Volunteers, on the benefits of Service User involvement.
3.To ensure that Service Users have access to opportunities for involvement in a range of activities both on a Scheme basis and outside of individual Schemes, eg local amenities.
4. To ensure that all Staff, Service Users and volunteers are familiar with and can put into practice the principles of Personalisation.
5. To engage in discussion with Service Users to explain and gain feedback on Inspire Strategy.
6.To assist the Area Manager in facilitating the liaison with professionals and middle management within Health and Social Care Trusts, and other relevant agencies.
7.In conjunction with the Area Manager be responsible for the promotion and development of good relationships with Service Users, their friends and relatives and between service users and staff in conjunction with the Area Manager.
8.Be responsible for and monitor the safe handling of medication including storage and administration in accordance with the use and control of medicine as outlined in Inspire policy and procedure manual.
9.Ensure safe guarding policies are followed.
10. Taking responsibility for, and active part in, the selection, assessment, review and implementation of individual care and support plans.

- Maintain clear, accurate, timely and complete written records / documentation.
- Complete general administration and/or communication as required for example; sending emails, completing computerised reports, answering / making telephone calls/completing statutory returns.
- Demonstrate effective listening skills and understanding when engaged by others, having chosen the most appropriate method and forum of communication.
- To gather appropriate information and prepare and present reports as required.
- Communicates the organisation’s priorities and shares information and decisions within their team, department or across the Group as appropriate.

6. The Deputy Area Manager will be willing when required to work a shift system of duty, which includes evenings and weekend and sleep in duties.

1.To work in line with the Area Manager to plan and organise work to achieve results that are aligned with business objectives and meet key performance indicators.
2. Prioritise own workload to deliver results that are of a high standard and meet quality specifications as set out by Trust Contracts, RQIA, NISCC and QAF where appropriate.
3. Monitor the progress of work against deadlines and ensures that deadlines are met.
4. Work collaboratively with others within own team, department and organisation to deliver results.
5. Keep line management informed of progress; evaluates, discusses and agrees contingency when targets are not being met.
6.To be innovative in the development of current services to identify new opportunities for growth.
F.Strategic Focus
1. Assist the Area Manager to contribute to the development of the departmental strategy and goals.
2. Scan, seek out and assess information on potential future directions in conjunction with the Area Manager, maintaining an external view.
3. Support Area Manager in the development of the strategy & translate into clear operational aims and objectives with the involvement of staff.

G.Staff Management
- Delegate responsibility and authority to staff within his/her control, consistent with effective decision-making while retaining responsibility and accountability.
- Takes such action as may be necessary in disciplinary matters including absence management in accordance with the procedure.
- Responsible for regular formal supervision, training and professional development of staff. Ensuring the assessed training needs are met for all staff.
- Implement the Performance Management System with the staff you are responsible for ensuring operational objectives set are strategically focussed and personal development objectives are based on an accurate competency assessment.
- Responsible for ensuring that the selection, induction and training of staff is appropriate to meeting the needs of service users.
- Planning and delivering in-house training programmes, including induction programmes for new staff.
- Convening and recording of staff meetings.
- Organisation of staff rotas and allocation of staff duties.
- Assist service users to complete appropriate benefit forms and advocate on their behalf when required.
- Provide the required activity/statistical returns.
H Internal Systems
Ensuring that the procedures of Inspire / Niamh are adhered to in respect of:
Inspire referral and review procedures.
Handling and security of service user’s money where necessary.
Ensuring appropriate monies including rents are allocated on a timely basis.
Ensure housing benefits and supporting people monies are applied for and processed on a timely basis.
Recording and reporting untoward incidents and complaints.
Health and Safety regulations – environment.
Fire prevention – service user risk management.
I General
- Hours are flexible and will involve evening and weekend work, night cover and on-call rota.
- The Deputy Area Manager may be asked to work in another project on a temporary basis.
