CLASSIFICATION LEVEL:Exempt- Grade 3
POSITION SUMMARY:The Crisis Counseling Specialist will assure the availability and delivery of crisis phone counseling including client advocacy, lethality assessment, supportive counseling, and information and referral to individuals who contact Crisis Services 24 hour Addictionscreening, information and referral hotline and other dedicated lines as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain a commitment to the mission and work of Crisis Services with a deep appreciation for and sensitivity to the guiding principles of the organization.
- Assure the availability and delivery of crisis phone counseling including lethality assessment, supportive counseling, provide prevention and addiction screening, information and referrals for chemical dependency intervention options by using NYS OASAS on line tools and referrals to substance abuse treatment providers.
- Provide information and referral, and client advocacy to individuals who contact the dedicated crisis phone lines with corresponding documentation and dispatch appropriate level of intervention.
- Screen all clinical calls for lethality per AAS guidelines.
- Document all calls in agencydata tracking program, including demographic information and presenting problem.
- Appropriately complete and assign inter-agency program referralsand other follow-ups as appropriate.
- Participate and engage in clinical supervision with assigned CCP program manager.
- Other duties as assigned by management of the Crisis Counseling Program.
- Maintain proficiency in Microsoft Office and other production and office systems.
- A minimum of on-call hours per month as assigned by Crisis Counseling Program management team.
- Attend training and professional development opportunities.
- Participates in staff meetings, case conferences and other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge: Knowledge of Human Services with experience and training in addictions/chemical dependency.Demonstrated professional verbal and written communication skills. Must have excellent organizational skills, with great attention to detail, and be able to maintain accurate records. Ability to prioritize, flexibility, and experience in working on multiple tasks efficiently and effectively. Must be able to set goals and create timelines for implementation. Must be able work independently.
Education:Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Human Services, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or related. CASAC/CASAC-T preferred.
Experience: Minimum one (1) yearprofessional experience in a chemical dependency program. Experienceworking in human service, preferably in or social work or counseling specializing in the area of addictions and substance abuse counseling.Demonstrated ability and experience working with diverse populations.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Professional office environment; no exposures to extreme heat, cold, dust, noise.
- 40 hours a week
COMPENSATION:
- Salary plus Addiction Hotline Incentive
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:Primarily a sedentary position with occasional standing, sitting, bending and reaching required. A high energy level; comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
