Lottery Funding

Awards For All

The Awards For All programme funds small amounts (£300 - £10,000) and could be suitable for a large number of voluntary and community based organisations. The Awards For All website has full information about the programme and how to apply which includes case studies and recently funded projects. You can also download the guidance and application form from the website. The application will take up to 3 months to be assessed and the grant must be spent within 12 months. Reaching Communities

This funding is for projects that help people and communities most in need. Grants are available from £10,000 upwards and the funding can last for up to 5 years. If you think you need more than £500,000 you must call us before you apply to discuss why you believe a larger project is appropriate. There is no upper limit for total project costs.

Reaching Communities can fund salaries, running costs, a contribution towards core costs and equipment. We can also fund up to £100,000 for land, buildings or refurbishment capital costs. For both programmes you will need to clearly show that your project or group meets at least one of the following outcomes:

·  People have better chances in life – with better access to training and development to improve their life skills

·  Stronger communities – with more active citizens working together to tackle their problems

·  Improved rural and urban environments – which communities are better able to access and enjoy

·  Healthier and more active people and communities

Heritage Lottery Fund

The Local Heritage Initiative can fund the following:

·  Local community groups - between £3,000 and £25,000 for local environmental heritage projects.

·  Your Heritage, which can fund between £5,000 and £50,000 for environmental heritage projects

·  Public Parks Initiative could also apply to Local Nature Reserves and offers grants upwards of £50,000

·  Young Roots – offers between £5,000 and £25,000 towards schemes involving young people.

Heritage Lottery Fund – Landscape Partnerships

The scheme which is part of the Heritage Lottery Fund provides grant of between £250,000 and £2 million to local partnerships representing a range of heritage and community interests to tackle the needs of landscapes, whose various elements may be in different ownership. Funding is available for applications based round a portfolio of projects, which combine to provide a varied package of benefits to an area, its communities which live, work and visit there. Charles Hayward Foundation

The Foundation makes grants to registered charities. Current categories that are funded are:

Esmee Fairbairn Foundation – Environment Programme

Woodroffe Benton Foundation

The Foundation provides grants to officially recognise charitable organisations within the UK as are any educational institutions (schools, universities etc) whether or not they have charitable status in respect of:

·  relief of persons in need, hardship or distress by reason of disaster or as a consequence of social or economic circumstance;

·  provision/maintenance of care and accommodation for the sick and elderly;

·  promotion of education – in particular within the Derbyshire region

·  environmental conversation/preservation/protection/improvement

Trusts

Bernard Sunley Trust

There are two criteria to fulfil before applying for a grant. You must be a UK registered charity or registered Community Amateur Sports Club and that you are applying specifically for assistance towards a capital project, new build, refurbishment, equipment or transport. General running costs (including salaries) are not included. The Trust supports education and visitor centres at wildlife sites. For more information visit www.bernardsunley.org

The Bromley Trust

This Trust makes grants to UK charities in conservation and sustainability. It includes grants that help develop responsible knowledge and use of the world’s resources. For more information - www.thebromleytrust.org.uk

Dulverton Trust

Conservation – the Trust is keen to support the general conservation and protection of wildlife habitats within the UK. They also encourage projects concerning the protection and sympathetic management of trees and native woodlands.

Preservation – the Trust is interested in the preservation of outstanding historic artefacts and buildings of national importance.

Ernest Cook Trust

The trust gives grants to registered charities, schools and not-for-profit organisations wishing to encourage young people’s interest either in the countryside and the environment or the arts or aiming to raise levels of literacy and numeracy. A large grants programme for awards of over £4,000 and a small grants programme for awards of under £4,000 operate throughout the year. Jephcott Charitable Trust

The trust provides funds in the following priorities:

Mark Leonard Trust – the trust focuses on:

·  Environmental education in the UK, particularly projects finding practical ways of involving children and young adults, sustainable bio-diversity and transport, energy efficiency and renewable energy

·  Youth work that supports the rehabilitation of young people involved in anti-social or criminal activities and helps remove the barriers to social inclusion

The Naturesave Trust

This trust is keen to support those projects with a long term benefit which deal proactively with the root of a particular problem as opposed to merely reacting to the effects. The projects considered must be from environmental and conservationist groups and organisations who seek funding for specific projects. Post Code Community Trust

Provides funding opportunities to community groups and charities through grants ranging from £500 to £20,000. The Trust supports environmental protection, community development, engagement in sport, advancement of health, promotion of human rights and prevention of poverty. Will Charitable Trust

The Trust provides financial assistance to UK registered or exempt charities whose activities fall within the following four categories:

·  Care and services for blind people, and the prevention and/or cure of blindness;

·  Long-term care of people with learning disabilities either in a residential care or supported living environment and a wide choice of activities and lifestyle or by providing long-term day/employment activities;

·  Care of and services for people suffering from cancer, and their families;

·  Conservation of the countryside in Britain

Woodward Charitable Trust

Applications need to fall into the following areas:

·  Environmental projects, especially with a strong educational element

Types of Grants:

·  Small grants - £100 - £5,000

·  Large grants – over £5,000. Large grants are mainly given to charities already known to the Trustees. Applications will automatically be rejected unless they are discussed with the administrator prior to submission

·  Children’s summer playscheme grants - £500 - £1,000. Applications are considered in May each year.

Veolia Environmental Trust

Supports community and environmental projects across the UK. These could include projects aiming:

·  to install or enhance play areas and skate parts;

·  restore footpaths and green spaces;

·  protect natural habitats;

·  improve community halls,

·  and restore churches

Before you make an application you will need to:

·  visit Funding categories to check and confirm your project comes under one of the funding categories and meets their criteria

·  visit Geographical eligibility to check and confirm that your project is within five miles of a qualifying facility

·  complete and submit the Initial Enquiry Form.

Other Funders

Biffa Award

Grants for projects that provide or improve community spaces, cultural facilities and places for outdoor recreation e.g. a building may need to be improved in order to increase its services.

Biffaward’s Main Grants Scheme invites applications between £5,001 and £50,000 for projects that increase or maintain biodiversity. The biodiversity strand aims to:

·  Conserve and promote biological diversity through the provision, conservation, restoration or enhancement of a natural habitat in line with Biodiversity Action Plans

·  Maintain and/or recover species in their natural habitats

The Big Tree Plant

The aim is to support community, not for profit groups to plant one million trees in towns, cities and residential areas through England over the next 4 years (2011 – 2015).

Grant of between £500 and £25,000, for up to 75% of costs, are available to projects that:

·  Plant trees in neighbourhoods where people live and work;

·  Involve the local community and provide benefits to people in the neighbourhood;

·  Plant individual street trees, small groups of trees in greenspaces, or other neighbourhood tree planting; and

·  Have in place a method for ensuring the trees are cared for in the future

The fund can cover the costs of goods and services such as: trees and material for tree planting, preparatory work. Local community engagement, contract labour for running the project, time of staff, hire of equipment and small items e.g. tools or protective clothing for tree planting. The British Ecological Society

The Schools Ground Development grant awards up to £1,000 which support initiatives to develop school groups as a place to teach practical ecology. For more information – www.britishecologicalsociety.org.

BT Countryside for All

Grants of £250 to £1,500 to improve access in the countryside for disabled people. For more information www.fieldfare.org.uk

Ethnic Minorities Award Scheme for Environmental Projects

Grants of up to £500 where there is a significant involvement of ethnic minority communities. For more information – www.ben-network.org.uk

East Midlands Airport Community Fund

Proposed projects that meet one or more of the following objectives are considered:

·  Offering environmental improvements and/or heritage conservation

·  Improving awareness of environmental issues through environmental education

·  Encouraging and/or protecting wildlife

Individual grants are capped at £2,000 per project, which can be used to fund capital costs, including equipment, security improvement works and building adaptations to provide disabled access. Green Open Homes

Green Open Homes is a national network which aims to support low carbon retrofit by linking and promoting existing low-carbon open homes events, and helping new initiatives get going across the country with resources, practical support and funding. Green Grants Machine – this is a free service to help voluntary organisations keep abreast of all the developments in green funding.

Grimple’s Green Grants

Lush Charity Pot – Lush, the high street handmade cosmetics company has created the Charity Pot Programme and is seeking nominations from charities to support.

Lush likes to look after those who look after others and are committed to supporting small, grassroots charities, non-violent direct action groups and other good causes working in the following areas:

·  Environment/conservation;

·  Animal protection; and

·  Human rights

All types of organisations are funded and its not necessarily to be a registered charity and support ranges from a few hundred pounds up to a maximum of £10,000 with an average grant of £3,000 and part funding of a larger project is acceptable.
