TITLE: COLLAGE’ LIKE HENRI MATISSE
GOAL: STUDENTS WILL LEARN ABOUT THE ARTIST HENRI MATISSE AND CREATE A COLLAGE IN HIS STYLE
STATE STANDARDS: 2.1, 3.1-2-3, 7.1, 8.1-2, 9.1-2-3, 10.1-2-3
SUPPLIES: WHITE, BROWN AND ORANGE PAPER, WATERCOLORS, TEMPERA PAINT, BRUSHES, SALT, CRAYONS, SCISSORS, PENCILS GLUE, THINGS TO TRANSFER FOR TEXTURE RUBBINGS, CRAYONS FOR EMBELISHING, LARGE PAPER, LIGHT COLOR FOR BACKGROUND, REAL GOLDFISH IN CLEAR BOWLS OR VASES
TIME: 3-5 40 MINUTE CLASSES
PROCEDURES:
1. CLASS WATCHES THE VIDEO “DROPPING IN ON MATISSE” AND DISCUSSES THE PAINTING/ COLLAGE “GOLDFISH”
2. STUDENTS CREATE “PRETTY PAPERS” (A TERM LEARNED PREVIOUSLY WHEN STUDYING ERIC CARLE) 9 X 12 ORANGE PAINTED WITH DESIGNS IN ORANGE AND RUST, BROWN 12 X 18 PAINTED IN BROWN AND CHOCOLATE, WHITE 12 X 18 SALT PAINTED IN BLUE AND GREEN WATERCOLORS, 12 X 18 WHITE PAPER TEXTURED WITH GREEN CRAYONS ( 2 COLORS) AND TEXTURE RUBBING ITEMS AND 18 X 24 WHITE PAPER DECORATED IN STRIPES AND PATTERNS TO RESEMBLE WALLPAPER (USE BLUE, PURPLE, AND GREEN CRAYON TO CREATE A PATTERN
3. USING PENCIL, STUDENTS DRAW A LARGE VASE ON THE WATERCOLORED PAPER AND CUT IT OUT
4. FROM THE BROWN PAPER, CUT AN OVAL AND 4 TABLE LEGS
5. GLUE THE TABLE TO THE LIGHT COLORED WALLPAPER DESIGNED BACKGROUND PAPER
6. GLUE THE FISH BOWL/ VASE ON THE TABLE
7. DRAW AND CUT SEVERAL FISH FROM THE ORANGE PAPER (LOOK AT THE REAL FISH FOR REALISM) AND GLUE ONTO THE FISH BOWL (YOU COULD ADD GOOGLE EYES TO THE FISH AS WELL)
8. CUT LEAVES AND VINES FROM THE GREEN TEXTURE PAPER TO GLUE AROUND THE VASE/ FISH BOWL TO DRAW THE VIEWER’S EYES TO THE FISH, THE FOCAL POINT OF THE COLLAGE
ASSESSMENT:
PROJECTS ARE GRADED ON -FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS, CRAFTSMANSHIP, EFFORT, CREATIVITY, PROJECT COMPLETED ON TIME (CLASS PARTICIPATION)
