Title:Children and Youth Development Worker

Salary:£20,000-£24,000 full time 37 hours

Pay scale based on experience and qualification, involving flexibility over evening/weekend work.

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Board of Trustees (via a line manager) which includes Scripture Union Representation.

BACKGROUND:

The St Cleopas 468 Community Project is a community project linked with St Cleopas Church Toxteth, Liverpool.

The values and mission purposes of the 468 project is set out in “468 Frankie” (attached) with its dual emphasis on

1)God’s (our) care for the whole person, spiritual, physical, emotional, social and intellectual.

2)The centrality of our need to know him (spiritually) which we express in a readiness to share a faith in Jesus Christ.

The 468 has a growing partnership with Scripture Union and is currently exploring a formal mission partner agreement with them.

Scripture Union is an international mission movement making God's good news known to children, young people and families and encouraging people of all ages to meet God daily through the Bible and prayer. The goal of Scripture Union is that all may come to a personal faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, grow in Christian maturity and become both committed church members and servants of a world in need.

The project is now looking for a highly motivated individual to take on the role of young person’sco-ordinator

Main Responsibilities

  • To shape and deliver young people projects (particularly young people in Key Stage 2, 3 and 4, with an emphasis on Key Stage 3) as agreed with Trustees and in accord with the Christian ethos and witness of the centre
  • To be a bridge for local young people’s involvement into the life, discipleship and witness of local churches. (So Sunday/congregational involvement may well be with St Cleopas or in another church with a minimum 12 Sundays in St Cleopas or another local church as the work needs)
  • To be “Lead Worker” for the project working with and line managing a 468 sports worker, sessional workers and volunteers, with particular responsibilities in the administration of the project.

Project and operational responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain relationships with young people and recruiting participants for the groups
  • Plan programmes of work with young people (involving young people in key stage 2-4 and beyond but with key stage 3 as a focus).
  • Share in the vision for local churches’ youth and children’s provision
  • Establishand maintain relationships with community partners(including local primary and secondary schools) and local churches
  • Recruit and support volunteers and part time paid workers who may be involved in the delivery of the projects
  • Maintain relationships with current funders
  • Carry out safeguarding officer responsibilities
  • Ensure appropriate risk assessments are carried out
  • Plan and evaluate work in the context of service priorities set by Trustees and funders

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Play a lead role in the overseeing and implementation of office systems
  • Fundraise for projects, including writing funding bids
  • Regularly update and revise policies and procedures
  • Ensure that records are kept of membership and attendance of the projects
  • Produce written reports for Trustees and funders on the work achieved
  • Perform some financial and banking duties (including managing petty cash, sending invoices and paying bills and coordinating with the treasurer and accountant)

Staff Development

  • St Cleopas 468 community Project and Scripture Union are committed to quality services for children and young people and require staff to maintain their own learning and growth through participation in relevant in-service training opportunities identified through individual interview and supervision with a line manager. Some training will be obligatory.
  • Management supervision will be held on a regular basis between the post holder and line manager. Additionally there will be an annual appraisal.
  • Participation in Scripture Union training/mission initiatives

General

  • Attend relevant church staff meetings and prayer meetings
  • Organise and lead 468 staff meetings.
  • Attend appropriate Trustees meeting
  • Clean up after themselves and their projects
  • The postholder will undertake such other duties as are discussed with and agreed by the Trustees and which are in accordance with the level of responsibility of the post.

It is an occupational requirement that the post holder must be a committed Christian who believes in the Lordship of Christ and the authority of scripture, and who wants to see the Christian message communicated effectively to young people.

St Cleopas 468 Project(a community project linked with St Cleopas Church Toxteth, Liverpool) in partnership with Scripture Unionis seeking a young person’s co-ordinator.This exciting new opportunity will require the post holder to be aperson of great personal integrity, a team worker who is self-motivated. The job will involve maintaining and building relationships with young people in the local community. It will require a passion for sharing the gospel and seeing young people come to know Jesus.
