Title: CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY COUNSELOR

Salary: $15.00 to $18.00 DEPENDING UPON EDUCATION AND DUAL LICENSURE

Status: FULL TIME

MAJOR DUTIES:

·  Develops a caseload per staffing assignments of persons with chemical dependency problems and implements a treatment plan in accordance with prevailing standard.

·  Carries an active, weekly caseload of clientele to include: assessments, referrals, individual counseling, group therapy, and case management, as well as outreach and community education.

·  Completes monthly reports on a timely basis due by the 10th of the each month.

·  Possesses communication skills with people of all ages.

·  Sensitive to cultural similarities and differences.

·  Provide information with the client’s existing traditions and cultural values.

·  Works closely with other Health Professionals at local, county and state level in providing adequate referrals, and support services associated with proper delivery of services for clients who are chemically dependent.

·  Provides crisis intervention outside normal working hours.

·  Provides education on the disease concept in schools and in the community.

·  Participates in weekly client staff and charts each client’s progress according to the established tribal and accreditation body’s standards.

·  Maintains extensive contact with Judges, social service agencies, attorney, probation and parole, TANF, school counselors, Tribal Court Personnel, and other referring agencies as it regards to client progress.

·  Ability to handle fast pace and high volume, utilizing good judgment, efficient time management and professionalism.

·  Maintain ongoing outreach and linkage building activities within the community, the schools and juvenile justice system

·  Accurately represent the agency and maintain positive working relationships with the general public, clients, funding sources, government bodies, etc.

·  Participate in peer review/audit activities as designated.

·  Assist WSHC staff as necessary.

·  Other Duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates of Arts degree in human services/chemical dependency option.

License Addiction Counselor (L.A.C.) or must be able to obtain licensure through the State of Montana within 18 months of hire

Must apply for National certification within two years of licensure as a LAC.

Ability to communicate skillfully in oral and written form and to maintain proper clinical documentation in client records.

Knowledge of the Rocky Boy Reservation as to its geographic to population groups, health needs, and cultural differences.

Knowledge and ability to utilize counseling and case management techniques as they relate to client.

Applicant must not use mood altering chemicals in a manner adversely affecting work performance, effectiveness, credibility or professional integrity, and must have 2 years verifiable sobriety.

Must be certified Health Care Provider CPR/ Standard First Aid or willing to obtain certification within one year.

Must be willing to provide services during evenings and weekends.

Desired Qualifications:

·  Indian preference, enrolled member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe preferred.

·  Masters of Arts Degree in Human Services or related field with a chemical dependency focus and one year prior experience in counseling or case management.

·  Licensed Addiction Counselor (L.A.C.) and/or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor or Licensed Social Worker.

Other Selection Criteria:

·  Qualified Chippewa Cree members who are honorably discharged veterans will be given preference. DD214 Required.

·  Chippewa Cree Tribal Preference

·  Will be subject to pre- employment and random drug testing

·  If terminated from any positions within the Chippewa Cree Tribe for violations of the Drug and Alcohol Ordinance I-99, must have completed requirements of the ordinance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1.   Knowledge of the variety of models and theories of addiction and other problems related to substance use.

2.   Knowledge of helping strategies for reducing the negative effects of substance use, abuse and dependence.

3.   Knowledge of the established professional code of ethics that define the professional context within which the counselor work; in order to maintain professional standards and safeguard the client.

4.   Explain how you apply the ASAM criteria across the continuum of care from admission to discharge.

5.   Time management and organization skills especially as it relates to documentation.
